Amazing staying

We spent a week skiing in Davos, just before Easter this year (quite late) and stayed at the YouthPalace / youth hostel. 
It is centrally located in Davos Dorf, up a side street with great views over the valley. It is close to the main Paresennbahn lift/train to the slopes and also numerous ski hire shops and the main ski school. 
The hostel is big, clean and the staff are friendly. The rooms are functional rather than luxurious but offer good value for money in what can be an expensive town. 
The food at breakfast is good and plentiful and the evening meals again offer very good value for money. 
One tip, if you are skiing, try to hire with a company near the lifts as the walk up the road after a long day on the slopes is much easier if you’ve left your ski kit drying in the shop!
We’ll certainly be back.

A week skiing in Davos

Travelling as a school skiing trip, the hostel was a short 7-10 minutes walk away from the main town centre area. In the vicinity there’s a Spar convenience store, a ski rental and accessories store, an ice rink, an ice hockey stadium, a bowling alley, an exceptionally big leisure centre, train stations to get up the to the peaks and of course a hefty amount of ski slopes and mountains of all levels of difficulty, beginners to professionals. The hostel itself was nice for its price as the rooms were definitely above expectations of an average run of the mill youth hostel and there were social areas like a games room fit full of different machines.

Although, some small issues were found. First of all, the bedsheets were made of a material that was not too dissimilar to the feeling of fuzzy felt that you get in a craft shop. This made sleeping slightly uncomfortable. Secondly, the food wasn’t what we thought it was. Apparently, breakfast and dinner were provided and packed lunches could be assembled in the morning to take to the slopes. The breakfast was basically just four different yoghurts, a few different fruits, a few different cereals mainly bran, cornflakes and muesli and either two different types of orange juice, all of these were the same every day. No croissants or anything like that depicted in the pictures. Lunch was basically cheese and lettuce sandwiches and dinner was sometimes alright. One time there was macaroni and cheese, which was disgusting ad could be smelt an hour later in the room while you were feeling queasy from eating it in the first place.

But they were the only the problems. I recommend this place as a sweet little hostel to catch some sleep between ski sessions, not as a mountain getaway holiday for a week.

I have booked a 4 bed dormitory. When I arrived I was tranferred to a  Double Room only for me! Very nice and clean rooms. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast buffet is just great. The hostel has a separate ski room. The Hostel is located up the hill, you have to walk a little bit from the bus station (local bus ticket is included in the room price), but the view is it worth.

Everybody knows that the air up here is pure and invigorating. And lying on one of the terraces, you have got nothing but a canopy of big blue sky above you. What was formerly a sanatorium is today the Youthpalace. Even the place itself at 1,600 metres above sea level is inspiration for organising your own World Leisure-Time Forum. So, what are you waiting for? Come to Davos for that ultimate holiday feeling.
