Haus Mittagspitze

Mellau

80 euro/night B&B for the two of us. Convenient to Bahnberg cable car. We stayed there for a week to be able to attend the Schubertiade concerts in nearby Schwartzenberg. Rooms small but comfortable, nice light décor. Fridge in room useful for wine or snacks. Shared sun/reading room with next room. Good breakfasts with wide choice. Particularly notable for interest shown by host, morning chats and directions to places of interest. Picked us up from Zurich airport for 80 euro, 20 euro for return to Bregenz for the train journey back.  Final 15 metres from road to B&B is on unlit unpaved road so bring a torch if walking back at night!

Gemutlich family welcome

We stayed here for 4 nights & had a great time. Our room was clean and comfortable & we had a great balcony/sun room looking onto the bottom of the ski slope/lift, just a few minutes walk away. The family that run the guesthouse are very friendly & the owner speaks very good English - his recommendations for local excursions & restaurants came in very handy as we spoke virtually no German. Breakfast was delicious. Mellau is a small, quiet, pretty town & was exactly what we were looking for. It mainly caters for famlies & couples - if you are looking for wild nightlife, you may be dissapointed. I think we were the only native English speakers in town too, which for me was a plus & the freindly locals coped admirably with my attempts to speak a few words in German. The local bus service is excellent & we visited the slopes at Shoppenau & Damuls. It took us about 2 and a half hours to get up to Mellau from Friedrichshaffen airport (involving a couple of changes), although it would be much travelling directly by car. I would recommend the guesthouse and town for anyone looking for a relaxing time in the Alps.
