We have just returned from two weeks at this hotel. We had a lovely time. Yes some of the rooms are a bit dated but it is clean and the staff are lovely, especially in the restaurant.
There was a lot of choice for breakfast.
Dinner was chosen the night before, there were three options for starters and main, and two for dessert. There was also a salad bar 
Food was good and service excellent.
This hotel is in a fantastic location, just a few minutes walk from the harbour and the ferries. 10 mins walk from the bus station.
The only down side for us was the noise at night. We were over the pizza restaurant attached to the hotel and could be noisy at night, but it was mostly closed by 10pm  so didn't really cause us too many problems.

Lovely Hotel in a Great Location

Stayed at Hotel Malcesine recently and I can honestly say it’s the worst hotel I’ve stayed in yet and I’m well travelled. 

The room was vile and dirty, with pills dropped behind the toilet, floor covered in other people’s hair (multiple colours… so not the one couple). I ended up using the bridal party slippers I was gifted to wear around the room as I couldn’t bear to touch the floor, and within seconds the soles were black. 

It was a mezzanine style, but the stairs and tiny hallway were filthy so you hated to walk across with bare feet it at night to use the bathroom. The spare pillows and linens had muddy boot prints on them, so we made so with the one thin pillow on the bed. The sofa was absolutely grim and covered in stains and dirt, we only used it to put our suitcases on in the end. 

I was so grossed out by our room that we didn’t even unpack our clothes and spent the week living from our suitcase. It’s the first time I’ve actually checked more than once for bedbugs in the bed and sofa as the room was vile. At the end of each day I actually dreaded coming back to our hotel and I’ve never felt that way before anywhere I’ve previously stayed. 

Unfortunately breakfast wasn’t much better, the coffee and juices were undrinkable and the food was just terrible, so I just ate fruit and drank water the entire week. The only reason I’ve added a star was because the reception staff were lovely and kind, but I will not be returning. 

I cannot believe this is a three star hotel. If you had told me it was a hostel, I would believe you. We stayed one night at Laura Christina Tennis Hotel up the road, which was far superior and the breakfast was lovely.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in, avoid and look elsewhere

The only thing this hotel has going for it is its location. It’s dated. Our room was awful and for €160 a night I expected more. Room was split level with steep steps up to the beds. Furniture was ancient. The shower had almost no light. It is very tired and in need of complete renovation.

I want to give 2 stars, but still giving 4 stars. That is why: The hotel is smack in town, pedestrian zone. We had a balcony overlooking the beautiful lake, watching ships coming to the dock. Lounge chairs for relaxing, access (a few steps) to go swimming. Personnel friendly, rooms ok, clean. It's simply, but that's all that's needed. The downers are the parking. Supposed to be private parking available, we looked for 40 minutes but couldn't find it, then we found it that we needed to pick up a key first. We resorted to street parking (with paying for it), because we wanted to use the car for other trips anyway. Good thing, the metered parking can be prepaid into next day, so no need to jump up during breakfast to make sure you are up to date with the paid parking. Breakfast just ok, a bit bland. We booked half-pension (dinner included) and that dinner was not good at all. The cooks got to be ashamed of themselves, unless they don't get the allowance they are asking for to cook real fresh food. Don't book the prepaid dinner! Worst of all, while many restaurant offer outdoor seating, the hotel restaurant has you stuffed inside seating only. No! I am on vacation, I want to enjoy the town, and the air and have a dinner under the stars. There are many restaurant options in town, every one of them better. So, knowing that parking can be a bit of hassle, and dinner is an absolute no-no, (breakfast barely), but considering the location, the view and nice personal, at this point in time, i would still book again.
