Just back from a new year ski trip to Saalbach. We stayed 5 nights at The Schattberg and loved it . Location was absolutely great, in an elevated position overlooking the village and Schattberg Gondola, 5 min enjoyable walk to lots bars & restaurants . The hotel was impeccably clean, with extremely comfortable bed and beddings, I think most rooms had balconies and our overlooked the town. Small restaurant with nice food served until around 8pm I think, breakfast was quite limited but nice enough . Very pleasant waitress, and owner. All lovely and trusting with a small honesty bar and no card details needed etc. Hotel was nice and warm with a really cozy feel to it, lots of nice lighting and rugs etc . Small sauna area which was great ( Austrian / German etiquette !) .We were a group of 8 and all loved it. Would certainly stay again if we returned to Saalbach .

Based just up the road from the Schattberg Express cable car in Saalbach (easy 8-10min walk to town centre), the hotel owners are extremely trustworthy and helpful. We booked last minute due to covid changes (two adults and one child) and Gerda, the hotel owner simply said that we could pay when we get there, no need for deposit payment. "We've spoken now, so I trust you...... if you can make it out here, no problem". This trusting attitude continued during our stay and the same when it came to settle up. A truly heartwarming attitude in today's digital and binary world.
The hotel is a family run hotel with all the facilties we needed, and was 100% on the ball at being covid safe. The rooms were clean and made when we arrived and were cleaned and beds made each day (in a different design each day, which was a nice touch - even a small bottle of fizz for New Years Eve - which was totally unexpected). The breakfast was simple, but ample, with self service bread, cheeses and ham/salami as well as boiled eggs, cereal, nuts, fresh fruit salad and selection of yoghurts (coffee and tea or hot chocolate by order). 
In the evening, the hotel had available,  simple snack type foods (including a lovely goulash soup) and bar drinks, so we did not need to venture in town each night - they also have a small games room with table football and table tennis tables, which was great for family fun. They also have a sauna (although we did not use it)).
The hotel has a great ski and heated boot room downstairs (accessible by lift from inside the hotel or stairs) and with easy access to outside.
All in all, a great family place to stay combined with some fantastic skiing in the Saalbach/Hinterglemm region. Big thanks to Gerda and her team for making our stay so good.

Great family friendly, family run hotel

The hotel and staff were lovely. Made us all feel very welcome. Its a nice quiet hotel, about a 10 minute walk into the centre. 
We stayed for a week, and its so nice having a meal and a nice fresh walk back. 
We decided to pay €3 per day to keep our ski’s and boots at the bottom on the lifts, as its an uphill walk to the hotel, which, with ski’s and boots wouldn’t have been fun (although we saw a few people brave it!). You can ski in and out but its a black run.. again saw a few people brave it. 
I would defiantly come back to Saalbach next year and stay at this hotel. Thanks for having us.
