Hi everybody,

it is August and I am thinking about my next ski trip in February 2009 already. And probably so do you.
I write this review as a thank you to the reviews I read last winter.
Last year I have been in my first ski trip ever. I thought I will never learn to ski as I am almost 34 yo and not skinny. I said to myself maybe I will read some books, relax, watch some tv, shopping while the others go skiing. Oh, I don't like winter also!! :)
Me, my husband (he never went to ski too) and 6 other friens choose Slovenia, Maribor for ski vacation and also New Year's Eve. As we come from Romania we thought it would be more acceptable as price and maybe as mentality.
Slovenia is a beautiful country. 
But even if we had GPS we had a hard time finding our way to Pohorje, where our hotel was, 15-20 km away from Maribor, the second largest city in Slovenia, after the capital Ljubljana.
The ski slopes are great - but I am just a begginer - they have night slopes until 9 pm, the cables are not crowded, not very expensive. Me and my husband took the ski school. We just went to the ski rental shop on the top on the slopes and asked for the ski school. In just two hours we learned  to ski. For that we have to thank to DORA.

Well, the hotel is located at the middle of the ski track, 1 km away. It is hard to go with your equipment if you don't have a car. and if you have, go early because the parking spaces at the slope are limited (but free). Or you can take a bus from the front of the hotel. If you have a ski pass, it's free.
The rooms are (like the name says) appartments. But they suits better families than 2 separate couples even they have 1 bedroom and 1 livingroom. There is a small kitchen but in the livingroom. If you cook there, the persons sleeping in the living room will not be happy. We just toasted some bread....
The rooms are nice, clean, cosy beds in the bedroom (but if you have people sleeping on the sofa in the living room - not very comfortable...not a good choice). The breakfast is buffet but not really ready by the time we got there, they kept bringing things after we already had bread with coffee (NOT GOOD) and some salami (NOT GOOD).
We thought we should take halfboard to save us some stress. Not a good idea, nobody takes it. Our boys didn't like the letuce soup and the local second dish (not meat with fries). I believe that they have a lady that cooks at that hotel like she would do at home. I mean not chef and helps, just a kitchen and a lady. We cancelled it in two days. The waiters don't speak English and the drinks are not included. A friens asked for plain water and twe could see them bring tap water. We went to Maribor to supermarket and we bought cheaper things, and remember we had a kitchen with pots, stove, oven and everything in our apartment. And guess what, we bought Evian water for 0,80 euro/1,5 l botle. OOh, don't buy salami, not good, we brought it back home to the dogs.
We spent New Years Eve there and we had to pay 70 EURO/PERSON for the New Years Eve Dinner. Before dinner, the stuff of the hotel brought 1 bottle of local wine/ couple to our rooms.
We dressed up and we went down to the festive dinner. There was not enough room for all of us in the restaurant and we served the festive dinner in confference hall/sport hall. Of course, the band was playing in the restaurant.
In Romania we celebrate New Years Eve with great fun, all night, we drink, we dance, we eat... it's special.
It was very sad. The drinks were not included!! Not even the tap water. For 70 euro/person. What the hack! We thought we should bring the wine from our rooms (and we had more beers and the traditional drink from Romania - tuica). We were not allowed!
We hardly found something decent to eat at festive buffet! All kind of sallads: carrots, cabbage,  Meat: weird fish, pig head, local dishes. I am sorry, I can't tell you what was for dessert, we left at 11.00 pm to our rooms, and we had a nice party with all the goodies we had...
The Slovenians that come here bring with them to their rooms huge bags with potatoes and barrels with beer. It smells better from the rooms than from the hotel's kitchen.
So if you think Slovenia is cheap, I think is comparable with Austria. I want to go to Austria next year. I heard nice things about Bad Gastein. Do you have a tip for me?
