Welcome to walking in Chamonix

  • Over 600km of trails across the Chamonix Valley
  • A bucket-list walking destination — and for good reason
  • Brilliant for all abilities, exceptional for serious hikers
At the foot of Mont Blanc lies the French Alps’ most iconic resort - Chamonix. One of the world’s most celebrated walking destinations, Cham serves up a network of trails ranging from gentle valley paths to high-alpine glacier routes that will, quite literally, take your breath away.
Families will love meandering through town on a Chamonix walking holiday and exploring the valley floor, Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve, and spectacular viewpoints via cable cars up to Plan de l'Aiguille and Flégère.
Meanwhile, hikers can explore glaciers, seracs, and Lac Blanc via the Grand Balcon Sud trail, home to some of the best views in the Mont Blanc massif.

How to get around Chamonix

How our self-guided Chamonix walking holidays work:

Our self-guided trips let you set your own pace, from the length of your stay, to how far you walk each day. But if you’re used to group or guided holidays, you might be wondering how you’ll get around? Well, it’s easy…

Getting to and around town:

Your transfer from the airport is included with your trip. Once there, you’ll find Chamonix is highly walkable - a compact town centre packed with shops, restaurants, and cafes, all easy to explore on foot.

Getting to your walks and hikes:

Don't worry about the inclines up to hikes and viewpoints - most of Chamonix's cable cars and gondolas run from around mid-June to mid-September, while the famed Aiguille du Midi operates almost year-round.
Buses run every 30mins to hikes in Servoz and Vallorcine, while the Mont Blanc Express train choo choos through the Chamonix Mont-Blanc Valley.
