End of stay cleaning:If the accommodation is not left in a perfect state of cleanliness, or if the customer prefers not to do it: €65 for accommodation for 2 to 5 people, €89 for accommodation for 6 to 7 people, €99 for accommodation for 8 to 9 people and €134 for accommodation for 12 people (to be paid on site). In any case, the accommodation must be returned with the kitchenette clean (dishes washed and put away). Daily cleaning is available on request.

Pets : Small pets are accepted. Extra charge per animal to be paid on site of €10.50/night, €49/week. Please mention when booking (anti-rabies certificate is mandatory). Attack and guard dogs are not allowed. 1 animal per accommodation only.

Maintenance kit (dish soap, dishwasher tablet, sanitary detergent) : €7 /kit.

Goélia - Les Chalets des Marmottes

We booked a week’s skiing through Sunweb (21/03/2026). Let’s be clear from the start, this was cheap as chips, and we weren’t expecting luxury. We came for the skiing, not the accommodation.

The Résidence Les Chalets des Marmottes is exactly what you’d expect at this price point, a classic budget French two-person self-catering ski apartment. It does what it says on the tin. It’s not especially clean, not well equipped, and by no stretch of the imagination is it comfortable or “nice”, but none of that was a surprise given what we paid. If you go in with the right expectations, it’s perfectly serviceable as a base.

The real issue was check-in.

We arrived late after landing, picking up the car, and driving around 2.5 hours up into the mountains, getting into the village just after 23:00. It was freezing cold, snowing, dark, and very clearly off-season quiet. According to the Sunweb documentation, for late arrivals you simply call a number on arrival and are given check-in instructions.

We arrived and called. No answer. Tried again. Nothing. No signage, no instructions, no fallback guidance, just silence.

We checked with a nearby restaurant, whose staff were genuinely helpful but visibly surprised, and even double-checked the paperwork with us. It clearly said the same thing, call on arrival.

Eventually, after some digging, we found an “emergency” number and called that. The person who answered was, frankly, furious. We were immediately shouted at for calling outside office hours, told it “wasn’t her problem”, and that we had woken her up and she had work in the morning. What followed was a long, circular and increasingly unpleasant conversation while we stood outside in sub-zero temperatures.

What made it so unacceptable wasn’t just the attitude, it was the complete refusal to help, even when we were clearly stuck. At one point I asked, directly, whether we were expected to sleep in the car. The response was still essentially that it “wasn’t her problem”, despite her having the key safe code the entire time. There was no attempt to resolve the situation, only repeated insistence that we shouldn’t have called and a total unwillingness to take responsibility for what was, in the end, a very simple fix.

Eventually, after 15 minutes of unnecessary stress and genuinely feeling like we were stranded, she finally gave us the code for the key safe. The same code she had had all along.

It felt less like an administrative hiccup and more like we were being deliberately made to feel small for following the written instructions we’d been given. After years of skiing in France, we’ve never experienced anything like it.

That said, once we finally got in, everything else was as expected for a budget ski stay.

And to end on a positive note, we had an incredible holiday. The ski area itself is absolutely beautiful, the local restaurants were excellent, and every shop, supermarket, bakery, and rental place we used was friendly, helpful, and welcoming. The destination itself really delivered, just not the arrival experience.
