Take the gondola to Hangurstoppen for the Hanguren Panorama loop with sweeping views over Vangsvatnet lake - or push up to the Red Cross cabin, Valbergstjørni lake, and Lønahorgi summit. Head over to the Bordalsgjelet gorge from town to hike a dramatic cleft carved by glacial meltwater, or - for the wildest day out - hike to Breiskrednosi above the UNESCO Nærøyfjord for some of the most beautiful views on Earth.

How to get around Voss

Our self-guided trips let you set your own pace, from the length of your stay, to how far you walk each day. But if you’re used to group or guided holidays, you might be wondering how you’ll get around? Well, it’s easy…
Getting to and around town:
Your airport transfer is included with your trip. Once there, you’ll find Voss a well-connected town centred around Vangsvatnet lake. The train station and gondola at the centre of the resort whisk you off to trailheads in a jiffy.
Getting to your walks and hikes:
The Voss Gondola (which runs 9am to 9pm daily!) departs from the train station, giving direct access to the Hanguren trail network.
Buses connect Voss to Gudvangen for Nærøyfjord day trips and Odda for Trolltunga trips. Meanwhile, the Bergen Railway connects Voss to Bergen (1hr 15mins) and the Flåm Railway interchange at Myrdal.

Can I still access Voss' lift and gondolas in the summer?
Yes, you can. Voss' lifts and gondolas still operate throughout the summer months, provided conditions are safe and favourable, and many of the mountain huts are still operational, so you can grab a bite to eat while savouring those epic mountain views.
When do Voss' lifts and gondolas run during summer?
Voss Gondola (Voss Station – Hangurstoppen, 818m)
- Operating times: 09:00 - 21:00 (summer daily; reduced hours in shoulder season)
- Open: Year-round
A quick "Mountain Rule of Thumb": Last ascent is usually 15–30 minutes before the official closing time, and Last descent is the very last cabin down. If you miss it, it’s a long walk back!
Can I hire a mountain guide on my Voss walking holiday?
Yes, you can. Wild Voss and other local guide companies offer guided hikes to the more remote fjord viewpoints.
Though these are not currently bookable via the Heidi website, you can enquire and book with the local tourist office, or visit their website. We recommend enquiring early to ensure availability.
