We had a lovely stay in Pension Strolz (in the annex which is 40 meters from the main reception. Hans was very friendly and put on the most welcoming and amazing Xmas Eve dinner with carols and candles around the Xmas tree.
The accommodation was spacious and spotlessly clean with housekeeping each day. The shower was powerfully and plenty of hot water. The towels could do with a bit of an upgrade as other guests have suggested. There’s a large swimming pool and excellent sauna and steam room from 3.30 each day. The food was a choice between meat/fish and a vegetarian. We really enjoyed our meals and after 4 courses we felt well fed. Breakfast was a selection of meats, cheese, croissants, fruit, yogurt, breads and boiled eggs. Plenty to fill up on before a day out on the mountains. The bus stop was about 200 meters away… 2 or 3 mins walk and the buses very punctual. We left our skis on the mountain in the lockers and walked sometimes to the lift. Finally, the location was ideal if you liked a little 5 minute stroll into town and enjoyed s very quiet and peaceful nights sleep. And just to add the bed was very very comfortable. So highly recommended, a good price and I’m sure we’ll be back. Thank you Hans, family and all the staff.

Comfortable, clean and good value

The hotel is in a fantastic location, very close to the centre of Mayrhofen around a 5/10 min walk. It is very peaceful with beautiful panoramic views of the mountains, we were very lucky to have a wrap around balcony which was lovely to sit out on. 
The flowers are absolutely stunning all around the balconies and the garden is lovely. 

I will go over the pros first:

The room is immaculately clean, the cleaners do a fantastic job. It is dated, but comfortable. There is a little tv which has a variety of Austrian shows. There is no tea and coffee facilities in the room. 

Food was a good standard, as others have commented there is little choice, and I am unsure if you had allergies/ dietary requirements that these would be satisfactorily accommodated. Quite a good mixture of traditional Tyrollean dishes, with 4 courses every evening. There was a vegetarian option offered as an alternative to the main dish, not the other 3 and nothing vegan.
The breakfast buffet selection was good, again to mirror other comments I would recommend getting there at 8am as many of the dishes especially the fruit were not replenished. 

Waiting staff were courteous. However I would not say they went above and beyond. You were certainly not asked how your meal was, or even to enjoy your meal. 

The negatives:

This could be a fantastic hotel with a slight few improvements such as a more hospitable and approachable manner. 
Seating arrangements are allocated, and when we did ask to have our own table this was accommodated. 

 The hotel lacks a comfortable, communal space such as a bar area where you can relax in, if either the weather is poor or if you fancy a drink after dinner. It would be lovely if the dining room had some traditional gentle background music to provide some feeling of atmosphere. 

Accessibility isn’t good either, there are around 10 steepish steps to enter the hotel, with no ramp, there is a very small lift which you would really struggle to fit a wheelchair in. 

Towels and pillows are poor quality and are desperate to be replaced. 

 In summary if you want a comfortable stay, you are open to trying different foods and you are not fussed about a welcoming warm approach then this is an ideal stay.

Italy

Stepping off the transfer bus the hotel stood out from those around it by the wonderful flowers and setting. Set on the edge of a small green in a quiet area it was an ideal place to rest and unwind. The proprietor showed us to our room which had a balcony overlooking the green with great views down the valley. Easy walking to the main street and buses to explore the valley made our walking holiday easy to plan each day. It was always lovely to return to the hotel after a day of walking in the mountains. The evening dinner of 4 courses was a joy to the palate with excellent service that never kept you waiting but never felt rushed. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of hot and cold options for the healthy conscious or those needing calories for serious activity and was filling for the day ahead. 

Mayrhofen itself was a great resort, seemed to have something for everyone, electric bikes for those wanting a little help, many cable cars for those wanting a quicker way up the mountains, parasailing to come down or simply a lovely walk along a river as the cold water flows off the melting glaziers. The later nice and cooling on a sunny day, much like standing in front of a fridge with the door open when its too hot. 

Definitely a hotel and a resort I would like to return to...
