On arrival the coach stopped at the bottom of a steep hill and we had to drag suitcases, skis, etc up to the hotel. No help was offered by staff to do this.
All rooms in this hotel have the showers open to the rest of the room ie no door. Apparently next year there 'might' be a curtain where the door should be. Many people complained about this and Crystal should have stated that this was the case.  There are no sockets near the bed.
The food was mostly excellent, but often the food served at breakfast was still on offer at lunch. Lunch finishes too early at 1pm. During our stay the staff were generally very friendly and helpful.
I did not use the boot room as I had to find a solution to the fact that this hotel was NOT on a green run as originally advertised by Crystal, but in fact on a steep blue run, so it was not possible for me to ski-in and ski-out. The solution was that I paid for a ski locker at ESF near the Chabriere lift. This meant that my skis and boots had to be carried there down the steep approach to the hotel, then uphill to the locker, and on the last day back up the steep slope (luckily my friend helped with this). To go skiing then involved a 10 minute walk to the ski locker each day and back again.
On leaving we all had to drag suitcases and skis down the steep hill to the coach, which was not easy as it had snowed heavily.

We stayed for 6 nights 28-Feb to 6-March-2026 booking through Heidi.com. We booked a double room, all inclusive. Everything was perfect. It was our first time to Vars and we were really impressed with both the hotel and the ski area. Vars is part of the larger ski area “La Forest Blanche” which it shares with Risoul. The ski area consists of around 185km of pistes and was more than enough for a 6 night holiday. The hotel is fully ski-in-and-out situated on the Melezes piste (blue). The ski area is great for all levels from beginner to intermediate to advanced. The hotel has only been open a few months so everything is very new. 

The staff were great, all very friendly, helpful and professional. A special mention to Oscar the barman and Albert in the restaurant, both of whom were very friendly and hard working and a real asset to the hotel. All the staff were great though and made for a very friendly atmosphere. 

We booked a standard double room and so were impressed to be given a good size room with a balcony overlooking the Melezes piste. The bed was king size and very comfortable. We had no issues with noise or hot water which some of the other reviewers mentioned.

We booked the all inclusive option which included most drinks and all the food: breakfast, dinner and a packed lunch which you assembled yourself every morning. There were plenty of options for both breakfast and dinner and the food was really delicious. Breakfast included fresh pastries, eggs, bacon, sausages, continental options, cereals, pancakes, toast etc. For dinner there were 3 or 4 main options plus soup, salad bar, cooked meats and an impressive variety of desserts. Everything was delicious and there was a good variety of options which meant we never got tired or bored of the meal options. For lunch we were given takeaway boxes for us to select cakes, sandwiches etc to eat on the slopes.

In terms of drinks the all inclusive included a cocktail of the day plus spirits and mixers and beers. 

The hotel has plenty of parking and you can drive up to the reception to drop your bags off etc.

It was our first time to Vars and Risoul but we were really impressed with the ski area. It cost around 250 euros each for a 6-day ski pass. The ski area is beautiful and the pistes are interesting and varied.  All in all we couldn’t fault the hotel or the staff and would highly recommend.
