Pros: Perfect location, helpful staff. Had a great week here

Rooms were spacious and we had one with a bath, also had built in chromecast on the tv which was great

Walk out directly to the cable car, or a tiny bit further to the telecabine so all in all pretty good. Also bang opposite the underground bar

Cons: Could do with a lift!!

We used this hotel for a recent 5-day Snowboarding break via WeSki (who I would highly recommend).

Hotel: Very nice 'alpine' hotel nestled between the road and the piste. Access to reception is down a small sloping path to the right of the hotel facing the piste. Ground floor is reception and breakfast room. Lower floor (piste level) for sauna, wellness and ski/board/boot storage accessed via piste and hotel. There are some comments about the hot tub not operating, but if it’s a deal breaker you’re on the wrong holiday.

Rooms: Don't get your expectations too high, these are regular sized for ski trips where you only use the room for sleeping and changing clothes. The room had a large radiator for drying out our clothes for the next day, and overlooked the piste. Overall, very comfortable and no complaints.

Ski Storage: Ideally located via a door from piste. Fitted with benches, racks for kit and boots. It’s worth taking a pair of flip-flops to wear to and from your room to the hotel (via a set of stairs in the breakfast bar), we didn’t and had wet socks going back to our room.

Location: Perfect - A stone’s throw (literally) from the Express (gondola) lift to the main piste location, and a short walk from the lobster-pot lift to the other side of the village. Definatley a plus if you're a first time snowboarder worrying about chairlifts for the first time.

Staff: Very attentive. On the first day we found that the room safe had been left locked by the previous occupants and within 30 minutes we had a new replacement safe installed. Thank you Fabrice.

Overall: We would recommend this hotel for your ski trip to Alpe’d Huez, and we would use it again if we visit ADH. The village is not large and everything is within easy walking distance, albeit uphill in some cases, but the walk back is easier.

Travel tips: 

Google Street View – I can’t recommend highly enough the benefit of orienting yourself around the village before your trip, both for the hotel location and the locations of the following recommendations.

Ski rental - Sport 2000 Ours Blanc is the nearest and were very helpful, if arriving early they’ll allow you to pick up your kit the evening before rental starts. Book on line in advance for a saving.

Here are some food recommendations based on our experience and walking distance from the hotel. 

Smithys for burgers and a relaxed atmosphere. Getting a table can be difficult as a walk-in, so but we booked via Whatsapp and they responded a confirmation fairly quickly.

Restaurant Edelweiss, excellent restaurant, but you need to book two days in advance to get a table.

La Pom de Pin, great restaurant that needs to be booked a day in advance. This was easiest as it is a few doors away from the ski rental so popped in when picking up our kit.

The Underground bar is across the road from the hotel and is popular.

Note: The reference to table booking in advance is that there are normally two sittings and whilst the later 9:30pm sitting was easier to obtain, it was too late given that you're off the piste around 5:30pm

Fantastic location… next to the lifts, great apres-ski terrace next door and the brilliant Underground Bar opposite. Fabrice and his team looked after us brilliantly and made us all very welcome. Hotel is quaint rather than luxurious but was perfect for 18 skiers who wanted to party! Thank you.

Stayed here from the 4/2/23 - 11/2/23, room only, staff very friendly and the room was big enough for 2 people. Excellent location for the slopes, bars and restaurants. The only complaint I have is that the hot tubs were not in action, in fact they weren’t filled up with water, this would have been ideal after a long day on the slopes to use. Overall an excellent ski holiday.👍

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Escapade! The staff were very friendly and super helpful when we had an issue with the lock on our door. It was fixed straight away. 

The room was small but had plenty of space for the two of us. Everything was clean and the beds were very comfy. We had an amazing view of the mountains.

We didn’t end up using the sauna or steam room in the wellness area, though it was a shame the hot tub was out of use.

The location couldn’t be better with the Alpe Express just next door that you can ski over to to get to the main slopes. It is also close to many bars and restaurants.

Breakfast was fantastic and offered a great variety of foods.

We would definitely stay here again if we return!

Perfect stay!

The Chalet Hotel Escapade is a great little hotel on the edge of the piste and close to the old town of Alpe d'Huez. The wellness facilities are particularly good and the outdoor hot tub is not to be missed! Couple that with our friendly Neilson hospitality and you have an exciting holiday ahead.
