Apartment Merbau Les Gets - by EMERALD STAY

Les Gets

Stayed at Annapurna for a week in early March this year. The appartment was lovely, comfortable, warm and close to everything it was great. 
Why only two stars!!?
There were 7 of us staying in a four bed apartment 3 couples and one single relative. We were only allowed two key fobs!! A key fob was needed to access the lift to the room, the spa, the room itself and the garage. Which meant that if say three of us went to the spa and one left early we had to go outside in our spa gear to reseption to ask to be let in. Felt like a naughty kid at school. Every time we went out we had to try and work out how to get back in or move about the place. We either had to phone to see if anyone was in the apartment to let us in, go to reception to see if there was a key left by another guest and if not had be escorted by a member of staff to be let in. 7 people should have a key fob each. 
This totally ruined our experience at Annapurna and would not book again. The staff were very nice and helpful. If I'm paying over £5000 for a week, I like to come and go as I please.

The apartment itself was very nice - clean, comfortable and well equipped. The bunk bed room is very small and a bit claustrophobic with no windows, but the two other double bedrooms are comfortable and well appointed, as is the rest of the apartment. We stayed for 10 days during the heat of summer 2022 and were thankful for a shady apartment at the rear of the building, away from the noise of the busy road and restaurant and heat of the day.

However, we would absolutely not recommend this first floor apartment (A104). Several of the staff who live in rooms directly below regularly smoke out of their windows (which is explicitly prohibited according to the apartment rules, as well as contravening French fire regulations). The cigarette smoke moves straight upwards, draughting up the exterior wall and in through the bedroom windows directly above . This occurred on a daily basis, particularly noticeable late at night as we fell asleep, presumably after the end of staff restaurant shifts, and early in the morning. The nights were very warm given the hot weather, and we preferred the windows tilted open, but even with the windows fully closed, the apartment has an air ventilation system which sucked the smoke straight in through the air vents in the window frame, directly into our bedrooms. The smoke filled the bedrooms and was strong enough to wake us up.

We complained about this several times throughout our stay, and although appearing sympathetic and assuring us that they had talked to their staff about it and it wouldn't happen again, it continued for the entire duration of our stay, night after night. We saw the staff in question smoking in their windows and showed the manager the ash trays and empty PET bottles filled with cigarette butts left on the window ledges. 

Unbelievably, the resort manager told us this is an ongoing problem, having also occurred during the previous winter season. Clearly their own staff don't care about the comfort and safety of the paying guests, and the management don't care enough to actually put a stop to it. This seriously impacted our comfort and wellbeing during our stay, especially our sleep quality.

At the time we were told senior company management with more authority were on holiday so couldn't do anything more in response, but now we have left, they ignore our complaint, having brushed us off with a generic email minimising the problem to one of "cleanliness and odour". Annapurna calls itself luxury and charges accordingly high prices, but the response of the resort management and company has been an absolute joke. It is not an unreasonable expectation to be able to sleep in a smoke free environment, luxury or not! Yet they refuse to take responsibility for a serious problem caused by their own staff. Given our experience here we can not recommend it.

Nice apartment, spoiled by staff cigarette smoke & poor management

We stayed for a week in appt A002 and it was perfect! 
It’s located close to the centre and a very short walk to a bakery for breakfast pastries! The apartment is beautifully decorated and spacious, and we found the beds extremely comfortable. It had everything we needed for our week away, and has a parking space and bike/ski store too. 
It’s has a lovely ground level balcony with some outdoor furniture, which we found perfect for relaxing in the sun after a day full of activities. 
The restaurant in the apartment block is the best place we ate all week, the food is delicious and they do the best cocktails in Les Gets! 

Highly recommended!

Best place to stay in Les Gets (A002)

What a great holiday! Stayed in room A002, would highly recommend for a spacious apartment with a big outdoor space with comfy furniture. The apartment was clean and plenty of space for the whole family. Only takes a minute to walk into Les Gets town centre and to the shops and a delightful local bakery. The restaurant at Vina Annapurna is delicious as well and a real treat.
