A wonderful family-run B&B in a great location, slightly outside the madhouse of Malcesine but really close to the lake. Comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast, Kelly and her daughter could not do enough to help. Just be aware that there are not really any decent places to eat dinner within walking distance.

Wonderful family-run B&B in a great location

Fabulous B&B located 2km from Malcesine on Lake Garda expertly run by Amelia and her parents, nothing was too much trouble they were always on hand. Rooms weee spotlessly clean and well maintained, amazing breakfast spread each morning, gardens for relaxing in chairs and sun loungers overlooking the lake, bar area operated on an honesty basis and a nice addition of free bicycles for use throughout our stay. Would not hesitate to recommend and look forward to returning. Grazie Amelia.

Wonderful location

Casa Benamati is a wonderful, well-managed and well -kept bed and breakfast located about 2km from the coastal town of Malcesine.

Its entrance is on the main coastal road,  identified by a well-lit oval sign.  If you are driving yourself, be prepared for the stereotypical winding narrow lanes of Italy.  The entryway/driveway is beautifully laid out with lights atop two columns one of which is covered by flowering vegetation (oleander?). The same type of lighting guides you up the winding drive, landscaped with rock and brick borders, vines and vegetation until it opens up into a long yard area where you park.

The drive up the coast road to get there is a vacation in itself.  Lake Garda is never out of site, and the drive takes you through coastal towns and villages, each of which would be a fun experience on its own.

LOCATION - Directly across the street from the B&B is of course Lake Garda, and one of many beaches on the lake for your pleasure.
A number of restaurants are within walking distance, and Amelia supplied us a list of those she recommends, depending on your dining preferences and budget.  She likes a particular a pizzeria in Malcesine called Da Mario and Sons. Having eaten there one night, I can see why it’s her favorite.  That said, we didn’t have a bad meal our entire stay in Malcesine.

The views of Lake Garda from the property are amazing.  And lawn furniture in the sizeable yard allows you to enjoy them day or night, while reading a book, having a drink, or simply let everything just soak in.  We picked this location in part because it’s far enough away from the busy, touristy area of Malcesine so that we had quiet, somewhat secluded comfort; yet a good stretch of the legs took us down the coast to the city center in about 30 minutes. There is a beach directly across the street, and the sky is full of paragliders from Mont Baldo that land up the road less than a few minutes away.

When we arrived, it was an end to a very frustrating driving experience from Desanzano (our first car rental experience in Italy).  A 90-minute drive from Desanzano took us 3.5 hours. 
TIP:  Never drive without a navigational system, a strong internet connection, or a road map.  “Follow the signs to ...” really doesn’t work in Italy.

Quite frazzled upon arrival, we were greeted by Amelia, who runs the Casa Benamati by Kelly. Amelia is daughter to mother “Kelly” and her father Giuseppe – both of whom are very warm and friendly. They all made us feel quite welcome,  and the glasses of wine from the bar area made us feel we were just where we had hoped to be. The bar area is set up on the honor system by writing down on “your tab” what you took from the bar.  We always asked, regardless.  At the end of your stay, you pay your bill in euros.

OUR ROOM - We had a mountain view room on the first floor (1st floor is the “2nd floor” in America.)  We had a balcony with a table and two chairs, that overlooked patio area below.  Very comfortable bed, a small desk, a lounger sofa, and a nice large cabinet for hanging and storing whatever.  There is a very nice breakfast room off the patio (shown by windows with curtains in the pictures).  You can eat in the breakfast room, or have your breakfast on the patio, where there comfortable spaced tables and seating.  We had two windows, one in the bathroom and one at the end of our room.  Including the doors to the balcony, all had workable wooden shutters.

BREAKFAST - Each morning, there is a wonderful display of pastries and croissants, small servings of bruschetta, cut up fresh fruits, homemade marmalades, breads and rolls, cereals, yogurts, juices, nuts, pieces of dark chocolate, small pancakes, and more.  As with everyone, we were always asked if we would like a ham and cheese plate (which of course we did) which Amelia brought out individually.  This was the same for any coffee or hot water for tea.  Every morning, Amelia added a little something special that was always delicious.  She is always present, making sure that everyone has what they need and want.

GENERAL- Rooms are cleaned and made up daily.  And any requests or needs we had were addressed promptly.  Amelia communicated very effectively and quickly to any questions we had, whether in person or via phone messaging, WhatsApp in our case.

AMELIA – Early in our stay, my wife became ill requiring prescription medication.  After connecting online with an English-speaking Italian doctor who sent a few prescriptions, Amelia helped us work out some issues we were having with the local pharmacy to get her prescriptions filled.  We became a bit frustrated with the pharmacy more than once, and each time Amelia got on the phone to straighten things out.  After that, Amelia was always checking on my wife, asking if she needed anything, and doing so much more. In a few days things were much better, thanks in no small way to the comfort we felt resulting from Amelia’s care and concern. 

While the location, lodging, and breakfasts are all top notch, our stay would have not been as comfortable and enjoyable without Amelia taking care of us in so many ways during our stay.

(Also, a special thank you to Raffaele (“Rafi”) for helping me with a car rental concern I was having.  And his enthusiasm about a restaurant that serves fresh fish from Lake Garda resulted in yet another great dining experience.)
