Four of us stayed in January on our annual ski trip. It was our first visit to the hotel and it was simply the best hotel we have stayed in over 20 years of skiing.
On arrival we were had our cases taken in from the taxi by a member of staff so that we could sit down and have a welcome beer in the lobby. Check-in was swift and we were even able to get our ski passes from reception. 
The rooms were spacious, modern and extremely clean. Couldn't fault it. We had a room at the rear or the hotel where you could see the red run that allows you to ski back to the hotel. The shower was hot and powerful and the rooms were warm and beds were comfortable. The rooms wee quiet and we always had a good sleep.
The service was second to none. Nothing as ever too much trouble, always on hand to get you another drink or what ever it was you needed. 
It was my friends birthday one of the days we were there and when we arrived at dinner the table was decorated with happy birthday decorations and they even gave him a birthday cake at dessert. Such a nice touch!
The owner, Christophe, took a few of us out on a ski tour for a few hours which was really helpful to get your bearings and to learn where you are on the mountain and where the different lifts lead to. We finished up having a couple of drinks with lunch in a fantastic mountain bar. 
On the evenings we relaxed in the hotel spa which was the best spa in a ski hotel I have been to. 2 saunas, steam room and heated outdoor pool with massage jets really helped us unwind after a full days skiing. Make sure you take your swim stuff because relaxing outside in those surroundings is something else. The massage jets are incredible. Multiple jets at different hits to help massage your legs.
The food was a excellent and varied. Evening meals are selected at breakfast and are delicious. There is a salad bar and small cheese board every night and the staff will ensure your drinks stay topped up.
The ski room is a good size and it s easy to get out of the hotel to the slopes. There is a lift  minute walk from the hotel which takes you up a section where you can then ski to one of the main gondolas. If the lift is closed then it's only a very short 5 minute walk.
This hotel is superb and would recommend it anyone looking for a ski holiday in Zell an See. Great value for money.

Fantastic stay 5* review

The most welcoming, warm, clean and lovely hotel I think I've ever stayed in.  Forget the huge hotels with the fancy names and rubbish service, this hotel honestly provides everything a hotel should do.  Upon arrival we were greeted with a welcome drink in Reception whilst our bags were taken to our rooms.  My room was spotlessly clean with a bright, modern bathroom.  Every day the bed was made, room cleaned, mini-bar topped up, tea/coffee making facilities available and during the night I heard absolutely nothing.   The breakfast was fabulous, with everything you could possibly want, then evening dinner was a 6-course meal from soup, cold starter, starter of choice, main course, dessert and cheese.  Of course you could miss out a couple if you couldn't manage it all.  Every single meal was delicious, usually a traditional recipe with a modern twist to it.  All the staff were very attentive and the Owner Christoph and his Parents very welcoming, friendly and interactive with all the guests.  The location of the hotel is 5 mins from the town, and if you are a skier you can pretty much ski in and out.  Boot room nice and warm and lots of space for your winter equipment.  There was absolutely nothing I could even think about moaning about, it was absolutely perfect and if you are in Zell am See, you should stay here.

We stayed at this Hotel for a week from the 17th January 2026 and had a fantastic holiday. The hotel is very traditional Austrian which we look for, the owner Christoph and all the staff were amazingly friendly and attentive, nothing was too much bother. Christoph hosted a half hour welcome get-together on our second evening to ensure we got the most from our stay, something we have never experienced in many years of skiing but which was most welcome. We were half board so took our 5 course evening meals in the hotel, the quality of the fare was excellent, good portion size and beautifully presented. The Spa was immaculate and we made use of these facilities, including the pool most days. We would definitely return to this hotel, indeed there were numerous groups in the hotel how were on repeat visits. Thanks to all for a great holiday!

We had the BEST time at Hotel Berner! The hotel is an exquisite, traditional Austrian building that has been run by a local family for 3 generations. The rooms are spotless, warm with stunning views of the slopes and surrounding mountains. The beds and duvets are so luxurious and were glorious to get into after a strenuous day of skiing! Every night, we were spoilt to a 4 course fine dining experience with a smorgasbord of salads and breads! The staff are so helpful and attentive - providing 5-star service.  We definitely hope to be back, and can’t praise this hotel enough! Thank you Christof, Karin and team! Xxxx

Exquisite, traditional Austrian hotel!

We stayed at Hotel Berner in early January and had a truly lovely experience from start to finish.

Our journey took us from Heathrow to Salzburg, then by taxi to Salzburg main station and on by direct train to Zell am See, arriving on a snowy Saturday afternoon. When we reached the station, the last taxi refused to take us to the hotel, saying it was “only a five-minute walk”. In reality, it was longer than that, through snow covered streets, with the final 50 metres uphill — quite a challenge while carrying ski equipment.

When we arrived and explained what had happened, we also mentioned that a friend arriving on the next train had recently broken her leg and would need assistance. The hotel owner, Christoph Berner, immediately got in his own car, drove to the railway station, and personally picked up our friend and colleagues. That level of kindness and care really set the tone for our stay.

Hotel Berner is a charming, small, family-run hotel situated close to the ski slopes. It has been in the same family for generations, originally owned by Christoph’s grandfather, which gives it a warm and authentic feel. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive throughout our stay.

The evening meals were outstanding: six courses each night, beautifully cooked and perfectly portioned so you could enjoy every course without feeling overwhelmed.

The location is excellent. It’s around 450 metres from the railway station, about 200 metres from the Postbus stop  (#660 takes you to Kaprun) and ski hire shop, and roughly 300 metres from the main gondola. Confident skiers can ski from the back of the hotel to a chairlift and return via slope "Red 9", although we preferred to walk to the gondola.

Ski conditions in Zell am See were mixed overall, but we were lucky to have two excellent days of fresh snowfall towards the end of our stay, with good snow, plenty of mountain restaurants, and a lively atmosphere on the slopes.

We also enjoyed the hotel’s evening entertainment: local church singers on the first night, accordion music during dinner on the second, and a festive Twelfth Night celebration in the town square with music and dancing on the third.

Overall, Hotel Berner is a wonderful choice — warm hospitality, excellent food, great location, and a genuine family atmosphere. We would happily stay here again.

Wonderful family-run hotel with exceptional hospitality

Superb location, quietly situated - 100m to the next cable car - ski back to the hotel, yet you're just a five-minute walk from the pedestrian area and the lake. Spacious and elegantly furnished lounge and restaurant area. Comfortable rooms with balcony, partially lake view. In winter, there's no more exquisite pleasure than the heated open air swimming pool (30C) with indoor entrance, Turkish bath, sauna, sun terrace. Private car park and garage. Excellent cuisine, including vegetarian dishes, choice of menu with various buffets. Come and spend a superb holiday at the cosy, family run Berner with its special international flair.
