We just completed a village to village hike, and the Hotel Alpenruh was one of our stops.  First off, the front desk was very helpful and friendly.  The clean room was spacious with a balcony overlooking incredible views.  And though the room was next to the cable car station, it was very quiet.  It was nice to see the cars coming & going.  We did not eat dinner at the hotel, but the breakfast was a nicely done European breakfast.

Nice Rest in Murren

My husband and I loved our stay at hotel. The hotel is conveniently located next to the cable car station. The views are amazing, from both our room and restaurant. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room had been recently renovated with a balcony. The bathroom was not updated, but this did not affect our stay in any way. Mürren was a great base, with plenty of hiking, restaurants, and shops.

I would also recommend taking advantage of the time for two package. It was a great deal and included the room, cable car, transportation up the Schilthorn, multicourse dinner one night, welcome appetizer and drinks, and breakfast. One of the breakfasts can be taken at Piz Gloria, which was so much fun!

I did a lot of research before settling on Hotel Alpenruh for our Murren stay. Everything is incredibly expensive in Switzerland, so the research mattered. This is why I want to write an honest review. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in this hotel. First, the positives - the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the rooms were clean (but small) and of course the views are incredible. The negatives: there is very loud construction happening right in front of/next to the hotel every day that started at 7am (some days even before!), and I mean VERY LOUD construction. Was it a jack hammer??? It was unbelievable. I understand that that may be out of their control, but a warning or a disclaimer on their web site or when we checked in would have managed expectations. Frankly, provided ear plugs would have been nice! For the outrageous amount of money we had to pay for this hotel, it's was nuts that we weren't able to sleep well and couldn't enjoy our hotel during daylight hours. Second, the breakfast was really not good. We all felt that it seemed like they were doing the absolute minimun. On some mornings they ran out of yogurt and most bread at 8am and it wasn't replenished. They had cut up fruit in a bowl that looked like it was just trotted out day after day (was not fresh). This is something they could add a little bit more effort to and it would make a huge difference. Lastly, the hotel should really invest in room darkening shades for a good night's sleep. This is a minimal thing they can do to make the experience much mroe restful, especially when there is loud construction going on during daylight hours. Overall, although the staff were kind, I regret having chosen Hotel Alpenruh.

Unfortunately, I was not a fan

We stopped for lunch at the restaurant. The fondue was the best we had in Switzerland and the service was friendly and efficient.  It was rainy so we did not eat on the patio but the view looked great.

Chalet-style holiday hotel with comfortable rooms, stylish restaurants and large sunny terrace. Arrival by car via Interlaken and Lauterbrunnen to Stechelberg (large parking area). Then take the cable car to Murren (Schilthornbahn). Arrival by train via Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen and there by post bus to Stechelberg's cable car Station (Schilthornbahn). Then take the cable car to Murren. The Hotel Alpenruh is located at only one minute walking distance from the cable car staion Mürren.
