We had a booking at Alpin Panoramahotel Lärchenhof for one night, 11–12 August 2025. Shortly after check-in, after only placing our bags in the room and before we even had the chance to use it, my wife suddenly became critically ill and had to be airlifted to the hospital by emergency medical helicopter directly from the hotel. While she was being prepared for transport, I was under great stress, asked the reception to refund the unused room, and checked out immediately so I could follow her – first watching her leave in the helicopter, then driving after her by car.

Neither of us spent the night or made any use of the booking. Still, the hotel refused to refund anything and simply told me to take the matter elsewhere instead of helping us. This despite the fact that our reservation clearly showed that cancellation was supposed to be free of charge.

What makes it even worse is that not a single person from the hotel ever contacted us afterwards to ask if my wife was alright. They had no problem taking the money, but showed absolutely no basic decency, empathy, or human concern.

The hotel’s behavior was inhumane, greedy, and heartless. At a moment when compassion was most needed, they chose to focus only on money.

I strongly advise others to think twice before booking this hotel. A place that treats guests this way in a medical emergency does not deserve anyone’s trust or business.

This was our first stop during on three-country tour of the Alps, and the Panoramahotel Larchenof rivaled them for ooh and aahs.  First, it is nestled on the mountainside of a gorgeous, narrow valley.  Its room balconies and its dining patio all look out to the valley, offering stunning views we are still talking about.  The restaurant's breakfast and dinner offerings were sumptuous.  There is even an entire floor of the hotel devoted to an indoor spa with saunas, made entirely of polished, hand-crafted natural wood. The service was provided by English-speaking, kind and ever-attentive staff. Need an elevator? They have it. Discount pass to the famous Grossglockner High Alpine Road only 10 minutes away? They have that, too. A two-minute walk to a cable car to skiing. They even have that, as well.  I booked the place skeptical that the photos online would match the experience, for us to find that it exceeded them.  This is a true Alpine resort with a bed-and-breakfast feel and million-dollar views.

Great Hotel. We were welcomed, and it felt immediately like a home-away from home. Rooms are large, beautiful and quiet. The food is super, and we would highly recommend getting dinner included (besides the breakfast), as we made selections and then shared between us, which made it an even better value (it is very well priced). The location is a short stroll to the center of Heiligenblut (see photo). Staff are over the top helpful and friendly. We'll definitely be back!
