We stayed at the Elizabeth Hotel over Christmas and wow what an amazing experience! We stayed from the 20th to the 27th December. Everything about this Hotel was 5 Stars. The rooms were beautiful and spacious. The food was outstanding and the staff were all charming and could not do enough for you. A very special mention to Balazs who was just amazing and consistently made us feel special! The highlight was Christmas Eve where we had an itinerary including a Christmas walk around the town, Christmas carols around the tree and a gala dinner. The whole day will always be a cherished memory. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay and Christmas one we will always remember!

An Amazing Christmas at the Elizabeth Hotel

I really can't say too many positive things about the Elisabeth Hotel. It was our second stay and we will return for skiing, and/ or a summer walking holiday in future. Several of the other guests we spoke to had returned to the Elisabeth multiple times.

On this visit we had a huge room in the new wing with a south facing balcony. It was extremely comfortable and immaculately clean. There was a small fridge but no kettle - as is typical in Austrian hotels, in our experience.

The restaurant was simply excellent. There was a wide choice of cooked and continental food at breakfast. Between 3 and 5 the hotel offers an extensive buffet with savoury and sweet options. Dinner was beautifully presented with salad starter, cold starter, soup. main course (choice of meat, fish or vegetarian), dessert (normally with a sorbet option) and cheese. The wine list was reasonably extensive and the maitre d'hotel was very happy to give recommendations.

The swimming pool/ sauna are a major plus, with a better than average hotel pool and jacuzzi, and a separate area with sauna and steam room and a relaxation area. As the hotel is adults only, the atmosphere is calm and quiet - perfect after a day on the slopes. We didn't have treatments or use the gym so I can't comment on those, but they are available.

All the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient.

The only other factor to bear in mind is the location. It's a 10 minute walk to the Penkenbahn in ski boots, although there's a ski bus stop immediately outside the hotel so you don't have to walk. On the upside, it's a short walk to the railway station, where the glacier bus starts. That's an advantage in high season as the bus fills quickly and people waiting at later stops may not be able to board. But if you want to be very close to a lift, the Elisabeth may not be ideal for you.

Our second stay - and we will be returning in future

Just back in the UK after a group of us enjoyed our 10th annual visit to this hotel.  We wouldn’t contemplate staying anywhere else in Mayrhofen.  Everything about it is fantastic; rooms, food, wine, spa and service.

SUPERB AS ALWAYS

Hotel staff very friendly and efficient.  Food was excellent.  Smart but very chilled vibe.  Spa excellent.  Our room was absolutely amazing and so I was surprise that the room did not have tea and coffee making facilities or a minibar.  With the room spec being so high I think you need to follow it through with the usual facilities.  Despite this I would still rate this hotel as 5*. For a hotel in a ski resort it offers style and comfort that you rarely find.  Ski bus stop outside the door and train/bus station about 200m away so easy to get to all of the slopes in the valley.

Fantastic hotel very friendly reception when we arrived with a welcome soft drink. I stayed in a single room in the old part of the hotel at the front of the building and it was an amazing room, so big and a beautiful bay window and what looked like an original oven and tiles it was stunning. Fantastic food very well presented and although portions looked small it was always filling, as you have a salad buffet 1st course with lots to choose from, then two more starters which were delicious especially the soup's. main course with 3 options and dessert and a "cheese journey" to end. Staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful, bar staff could perhaps be a tad happier in their work!! Has a cocktail list, nice wine list and good beers.
Breakfast was delicious with so much to choose from, the pumpkin bread is  amazing, lots of coffee options, tea, if you prefer a stronger cup of tea use the tea leaves option and not the bags. Egg station and you can have poached, boiled, fried, scrambled or an omelette huge choice of fillings. lots of delicious breads, jams honey and nut butter, smoked salmon, organic choice of oats and muesli. Afternoon tea is worth coming off the slopes for and a nice touch before using the spa facilities. Hot drinks are not included at this time, you have to purchase one. Spa had great facilitates and the out door hot tub is very strong and great for the tired limbs! There is hot fruit tea or water in the spa area. One very small criticism is that tap water is not available during dinner you have to purchase a bottle at 7 euros but this is common practice apparently? The sister hotel opposite the road has a lovely garden to walk round and an outside pool . Ski bus is right outside, boot room is good with warm lockers there is a ski shop next door to get equipment but there are better ones as not sure if this shop sprayed inside the boots  after each use as they were very smelly!

The rooms are very warm, cleaned to a very high standard, body wash and lotion to use, hairdryer and lots of storage space. Two bottles of complimentary water in the fridge, but not replaced once drank. Bathrobes and slippers and a basket to take all you items to the spa facility, the Nude part of the spa is very easily ID'd by the water area and steam room and you cant "accidentally" be in the area as there is a door to go through.

Mayrhofen as a ski area is not the best for beginners IMHO , as a lot of the runs at Penken are narrow blues and cross over reds and are not very well signed posted. run 28 gets very busy and lots of turns not wide at all.  Ahorn is a good area to practice and we went to the Glacier and be carful of blue run 17 as has a extremely tricky part just after the cafe that I ended up coming down on my bottom!!!! You have a choice of using the train buses to get to other areas and its included in your pass.
