Kandersteg is a beautifully quiet, scenic alpine village with two small ski areas - Oeschinensee and Sunnbühl - serving up gentle, uncrowded, wide pistes. It’s ideal for families and beginners who want panoramic views without the queues.
In Oeschinensee, mini skiers will love the "Oeschiland" children's area, and the toboggan run offers a fun ride back into the valley.
If you’re a cross-country skiing fan, you’re in luck. With 60km of groomed trails, Kandersteg is one of the largest cross-country skiing areas in Switzerland.
It’s also home to Lake Oeschinen - a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site ringed by peaks towering above 3,000m. In the coldest winters the lake freezes solid, and the Ice Walk across it is one of the most extraordinary things you can do in the Alps.
