Totally unforgettable!!  Great fun from the moment I got to the chalet; our hosts were there to greet us with a hug and a huge smile, ready to show us around and make us feel at home. The house is so cozy and comfortable, I think most if not all rooms have an ensuite.

I have been snowboarding a fair amount but would say I’m still a beginner, there was no pressure to do anything difficult and our hosts were so understanding and helpful about where to go.

The social life here is awesome. There was a mix of returners and new comers, either way people were social and ready to have fun.

Food in the chalet and out in town is great, and the hosts always made sure there were yummy snacks available.

Special shout out to our hosts Passey and Thea, truly one of a kind and were so energetic, hilarious, supportive, and overall facilitated a fantastic trip.

Thank you a million times over!!!!

Unforgettable!

I had a wonderful week at Hofnar and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The group was a great mix of regulars and first-timers, and from day one it felt easy, relaxed and very social. We skied a lot, laughed constantly, and the atmosphere was genuinely warm and welcoming.

A huge part of that was down to our host, Passey. She has endless energy, is great fun, and somehow manages to be everywhere at once. She took such good care of each guest - making sure everyone knew where to go, what to do, and felt included, whether you were a confident skier or finding your feet. Her enthusiasm really sets the tone for the week. Huge thanks to Thea too for the giggles and tasty food. 

This is a place that really shines if you’re travelling solo but don’t actually want to be solo. There’s a strong community feel - whether that’s après-ski chats, band singalongs, hot tub time, or movie nights, there’s always something going on and people to share it with.

That said, Hofnar isn’t for everyone - and that’s okay. If you’re brand new to skiing and not sure the ski lifestyle is for you, or if you’re looking for quiet evenings and early nights, this may not be the right fit (pack earplugs just in case). But if you love skiing, socialising, and being part of a lively, friendly group, it’s absolutely the place to be.

Already booked to come back later in the season - and counting down the days.

Pros:
1. Passey, the chalet girl, is very friendly, helpful, super social and fun. She’s probably the most sociable and chatty person I’ve ever met but is never ‘too much’ and is always just lovely.

2. Hot tub is great. Great food cooked by the chalet girls.

3. The majority of guests were cool and easy to become friends with.

Cons:
1. The issue with staying in a chalet as a solo traveller is that you never know what you’re gonna get, in terms of other guests, until you arrive. Unfortunately my group (which was 95% male) included a small group of friends who were Hofnar regulars that already knew each other and had kinda obnoxious behaviour (throwing food at the chalet host, and generally being vile and incredibly loud and crude and drunk at all times). The risk of Hofnar/Chalet Skade is that you might be living with the sort of people who you would, in normal life, cross the street to avoid. 

I would say this is somewhat out of Hofnar’s control so I don’t think it’s a failing of the chalet/hosts. That said, Hofnar basically envisages the chalet guests will, if going out, go out together as one group (“meet up at [ ] for lunch”) which makes it too awkward to then suggest “can’t a group of us do our own thing for lunch?”. 

2. Noise travels to the bedrooms REALLY easily so it’s hard to sleep when ppl are making noise at 2am in the morning and you can hear everything they’re saying. Reader, it was so bad that even noise-cancelling headphones wouldn’t drown out the vile hollering.

I absolutely loved staying at Chalet Skade with Hofnar! Our hosts Thea & Passey were excellent- they made everyone feel immediately at home, cooked us delicious dinners, organised lunches & generally looked after everybody SO well! The chalet is really cosy and homely, with gorgeous views and a hot tub. If you’re looking for a fun and sociable but also relaxing place to ski from, this is it! I can’t wait to go back!

The best week in the mountains

Thea and Passey were phenomenal hosts who somehow made everything look effortless; from running the chalet and cooking amazing meals, to riding with the group and ensuring no one was left behind, sharing local knowledge, and even guiding nights out to keep the good vibes going. They genuinely felt like close, caring friends.

The chalet itself is in a great location just a short walk over the bridge to the Super Morzine lift and lockers, with incredible views over town. The hot tub and sauna were absolute lifesavers after a long day riding, and the chalet was always warm, spotless, and well stocked with beers, wine, and snacks.

As a HOFNAR first timer coming in solo, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it didn’t take long at all for the group to feel comfortable with each other and joke around like old friends. Before the trip was even over, we were already talking about when we could come back next.

I would 100% recommend staying here if you’re heading to Morzine. Make sure to grab a (few rounds of) vin chaud from The Cat and Dog!

Like a home away from home

A really laid back chalet. Most people come along on their own and join in with our really sociable holidays. Young professionals in their twenties and thirties - no kids! During the winter we ski and snowboard, during the summer we do everything from paragliding to mountain biking...
