We had another great holiday at the Rhododendron, snow was great and we skied to Les Arc twice in the week. We eat on the hotel in the evenings and the food was very wholesome. The bobsleigh bar in the hotel had a fun and friendly atmosphere so we enjoyed many an evening there!

Fantastic all round hotel in a great location

The hotel was very poor.  Sunweb describe it as 3 star on their website but it’s a 2 star at best. It’s marginally better than a youth hostel. Tiny bedrooms (we booked two) in a poor state of repair (laminate floor planks coming apart, TV that didn’t work, no safe, no room service (apart from bin emptying and a new toilet roll (on some days). The en-suite is tiny and dated. The shower cubicle is so small you can’t bend over to pick something up in them. The smallest I have ever been in anywhere! The hotel is run by mostly British youngsters, not older than their early 20’s. To their credit they work hard. However, reception is rarely manned, some lack a bit of knowledge of the local area which isn’t great. The food is mostly bad - occasionally average. Hot breakfast consists of scrambled eggs only. The buffet style includes fairly lee slices, and some sort of sliced spam. There are cereals, cakes and croissants though. Dinner is two choices- veggie or not. Often vegetables are over cooked. A bread basket is provided but there are no side plates to eat it so you have to use your napkin…Desert was a variation of the same tart ever night. A scope of ice cream or some cream would have improved it. Feels very school canteen standard at best. Some evenings were marginally better than others. Complimentary carafe of wine was a nice touch although very cheap and will give you heartburn. As the rooms were so small and uncomfortable it would have been nice if the hotel had somewhere to comfortably lounge around after a day’s skiing. The bar didn’t offer this. Small, wobbly stools and tables with some makeshift seating around the edges which was more comfortable that the stools but only just. A few sofas around reception but nothing else. The ski boot room had lockers but no boot dryers so your feet stayed damp all week. The path and steps up to the front door were falling apart and dangerous in the conditions. I booked this venue based on reviews as some were positive. However, I think this is largely out of sympathy for the kid’s running the place as many skiers will probably have kids of a similar age (l have!) and will admire them for their hard work which is impressive to be fair. However in 20 years of ski trips this is the most basic accommodation I’ve ever stayed in. It’s one and only saving grace is the location. Literally across the road from the piste, ski lift and ski hire shops. However, be warned- La Plagne 1800 is a village made up almost entirely of chalets accommodation. There is hardly anything else there in terms of restaurants/ bars/ shops etc. you have to use the bus which is free to go to the surrounding villages. I would definitely not return or recommend this hotel. The rest of the holiday through Subweb went well. Sunweb - you need to rate this a 2 star not 3. It’s misleading…
