Hotel La Verticale

Chamonix

We had a very unfortunate experience at this hotel in August 2025. During our stay, we discovered a severe bed bug infestation in our room. We have photo and video evidence of this, which we will upload with this review.
When we reported the issue, the hotel suggested that the bed bugs could have come with us in our luggage or from other resent guests, even though we found both adult bed bugs and nymphs visibly crawling in cracks in the walls. This clearly indicates a long-standing infestation that could not possibly have originated from us. After looking through other reviews, we also noticed that previous guests have reported similar experiences and received the same dismissive response.
While the hotel arranged alternative accommodation for our final night after our request, the infestation forced us to cancel onward travel plans, book extra nights at another hotel, and pay for professional decontamination of our belongings to prevent further spread.
The hotel initially offered us compensation of 300 €, but later refused to honor this, referring us instead to Booking.com. Booking.com however provided a refund from half the total cost for the La Verticale stay.
This was an extremely stressful experience. Bed bugs should never be present in a hotel room, and the way the hotel handled the situation left us very disappointed. Guests deserve transparency and future travelers should be aware that this appears to be a recurring problem at this property.

Severe bed bug infestation

We stayed during the half term holidays and despite the resort being mainly closed due to heavy snow and avalanche warnings, we had a superb experience at this hotel. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Helping us with every query (and we had a few). Rooms were basic, but clean, serviced every day, warm, with great views of the mountains and the beds were decent. Great ski storage and only a few minutes walk to Savoy for easy access to Brevent Planplaz Gondola. The location was perfect and for a 2-star hotel it offered good value for money and really deserves its 5-star review. Thanks to the whole team for looking after us. See you next year (when we pray to the snow gods for more of Chamonix to be open for skiing)

Perfect location & great service

We booked a room here for our daughter, who had just walked the Tour de Mont Blanc. She and a friend were grateful for the hot shower and report that the hotel was clean. However, their room was so small that one had to hide in the bunkbed to leave room for the other to open a suitcase. They had to leave early to catch a train and no breakfast was available to them. Most frustratingly, we had booked a room for the wrong date; rebooked it within 10 minutes for the correct date; and were refused a refund for the unused night (still a full week away). So we paid more than $450 for one night in a cramped room for two exhausted hikers, who left hungry early the next day. Do not recommend.

Clean but tiny room and unkind about booking error

Great location in the middle of town. Clean rooms, comfortable beds. Not a ton of storage space for our family of 4. Our rooms had outdoor had a balcony which was very nice. Breakfast was pretty basic but fine, I’m not sure worth the price since there are nice cafes down the street.
