I booked a non-smoking room with a large double bed measuring 151 by 180cm (as stated on the booking confirmation). Instead, I was given a room that stank of cigarette smoke so badly it was hard to breathe. After complaining, I was eventually moved after being originally told to stay the night in the room which I stated was unacceptable, I was moved to another room that was just as bad, the same tiny, claustrophobic size, with two single beds shoved together and a hard wooden frame sticking up in the middle with no mattress covering. Not only was this false advertising, it was impossible to sleep on.

Neither room was acceptable, and both felt more like a prison cell than a hotel room. The room was next to the hotel’s swimming pool, which was loud early in the morning at 8am opening time. Be aware that other rooms faced a large busy car park and motorway, which only added to the noise and horrible atmosphere.

To make things worse, I was never given a room key and was told by staff that if I left the room, I wouldn't be able to get back in. This is a huge safety issue and made me feel trapped and completely unsafe. I had to place glass bottles against the door incase someone entered whilst i slept as it was unknown who held the keys for the room!

The manager refused to acknowledge the smell, offered no real apology, and later sent a message on booking.com app falsely accusing me of “aggressive behaviour” when all I did was calmly raise valid concerns. The hotel’s response was unprofessional, dishonest, and defensive from the start. When speaking to Annette, the manager, in the morning, she explained that they “don’t give refunds”. We don’t feel that we got what we paid for and what was described, so we found this to be a strange claim to make without investigating further.

Yes, we were offered breakfast, but it wasn’t a solution to our issue, and we didn’t want to stay at the hotel any longer, nor did we request breakfast in the first place!

Strange and unprofessional behaviour from management, which I have added their booking.com reply for all to see. I would have left were it not for the time and being exhausted from travelling. Honestly didn't think this would happen to me and my partner. worst experience I've ever had in a hotel.

For clarity: I am not looking for further excuses or a generic “please contact us” reply. I already tried to resolve this directly with the hotel, but management refused to accept any fault. They also failed to respond properly through Booking.com. The matter is now with my credit card provider.
