Residence Goethe

Malcesine

We stayed at Residence Goethe for 5 nights last week for a wedding. We booked a two bed lake view apartment. The accommodation was easy to find using the phone sat nav, and signposted from the main road.

Marco & his family were welcoming and friendly, he explained the accommodation and local area to us, and provided some maps. The whole block and our apartment was modern, large and clean, perfect base for us to explore from, the views are absolutely stunning! We had a lovely garden terrace. The pool and area was clean though it was probably a little early in the year for it to be warm enough, but our daughter enjoyed paddling and she played in the downstairs playroom a couple of times too which was really handy on the couple of days it rained.

The apartment kitchen was well equipped - there wasn't an oven but we ate out most of the time anyway (so many amazing restaurants!) and had a microwave, toaster, dishwasher & fridge freezer which was plenty for breakfasts. 

There were lots of clean towels & bedding, free wifi, a lift to all floors which was great with suitcases, shopping etc. The car park was close by and secure. 

Malcesine town is about 1.5km away and we were able to walk a few mins down the hill to get the tourist bus for just over a euro each. We got a couple of taxis when the weather wasn't as good which were about 10euros. 

Theres a supermarket at the bottom of the hill, and a little bar opposite which was lovely & great place to stop for a drink before getting the bus. 

Would definitely book again if we returned to Lake Garda :) thanks for a lovely stay!

Great Airbnb complex of 13 apartments. 
Quiet. 
Kitchen with most necessities in it. No oven.
Nice swimming pool.
Very comfortable sofa.
Beautiful view.
Safe car park.
Big, good shower.
Air conditioning.
Ants for me was the bigger problem.
After all, really pleasant stay, very close to the lake and food shopping or cute little town Malcesine. 
Very impressed with the organization of this operation. We booked our apartment few hours before arrival. 
Nice welcome.
Please make sure you have kitchen towels and all what you need like soap or shower gel and washing liquid.

Cosy and adequate

Lake Garda was beautiful, the location of Residence Goethe was not bad either a walk to the town was around 15 minuets and a bus ran every hour. We stayed with our two children age 5 and 6, I booked a two bedroom apartment what I got was a one bedroom apartment and a pull out sofa in the kitchenette, not ideal ! on arrival our room was not ready so we walked to a local supermarket for some supplies tea coffee wine bread milk etc.. we pick up a couple of frozen pizzas for the kids as it was a self catering apartment to find we only had a microwave !  we also only had one wine glass ! it advertises laundry facilities ha ha what a joke ! the washing machine is in constant use buy the hotel for towels sheets etc and there is one iron for the whole hotel and a broken ironing board that was not usable, then came to making up the beds, four people 3 single quilts two single quilt covers and one double cover. oh and one last thing it advertises a heated pool which was a plus for us as the kids shiver in the unheated ones, guess what its not heated and has green algae to the sides and bottom !

Beatuiful Lake Garda, not so good Goethe

We stayed for 6 nights in April'16, 2 adults and 2 kids. We were left with mixed feelings about Residence Goethe. The view is great over the lake and mountains, the apartment was ok size and sufficiently equipped for cooking in but furniture not in the best of conditions in general and the location is so and so (about 2km from the central parts of Malcesine). On average it is good for the price you pay, but ....
What we found disappointing were all the extra charges on top of the booking price: 10EUR for a low quality wifi (low quality in our apartment at least), 30EUR for cleaning on departure, and 5EUR per night for a cot. That last extra charge is totally unreasonable and it was definitely the first time we have ever had to pay extra for a cot in any kind of accommodation.
On balance an ok stay but let down by the extra charges and the so and so condition of the furnishings in the apartments.

Left with mixed feelings

We had two weeks here and loved it. Had a partial lake view apartment but our balcony was enormous and could still see the lake. Plenty of space, apartment was immaculate and owners were extremely friendly and helpful. Pool brilliant too - our 3 children loved it.
Only reason we didn't give 5 stars was the lack of an oven or kettle in a self catering apartment. I know the idea is to eat out on holiday but with a family of 5 that wasn't feasible every day and we would have appreciated an oven. 
Regardless, we had a lovely holiday and highly recommend these apartments.
