Austria’s Kaprun ski resort is a first-class spot for beginners. With gentle nursery slopes and a sweet mix of quiet blue runs, newbies will be cruising down the Miaskogel pistes in no time or having fun in the excellent family area. More experienced riders will love carving up intermediate reds and blues down the scenic Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. And the more adventurous will find a few gnarly black runs and heaps of off-piste terrain to explore - with over 3000 metres of altitude, the powder can be mighty fine!

Best time to ski in Kaprun

If you want to get in some early or late-season skiing from October to July, Kaprun’s lofty Kitzsteinhorn Glacier is one of the most snow-sure spots in Austria. But for the best powder, aim for a ski trip in January or February. Let it snow! As you’d expect, the slopes get busier during the school holidays, but magical Advent Markets create a fun and festive atmosphere in town and nearby Zell-am-See. Save some pennies and enjoy quieter slopes by travelling off-peak in early March - longer days also mean first track runs in the morning are worth getting up early for!

Things to do in Kaprun

From upbeat mountain huts to a great selection of bars and restaurants in town, Kaprun has a lively apres ski scene. Soak up panoramic vistas of the Austrian Alps at the overhanging Gipfelwelt viewpoint. And don’t miss a stop at the Kitzsteinhorn Ice Camp - enjoy a drink on the sun terrace or cosy up in the igloo Ice Lounge. There will be squeals and thrills on the MaisiFlitzer toboggan ride down Miaskogel. Or, if you need a well-earned break from all the action, you can kick back and relax in the Tauern Spa - utter bliss!
