Welcome to La Thuile Ski Resort
La Thuile, Italy, is a great option for those looking for a quieter resort and at a price that’s less expensive than its French neighbours – but still gives access to their snow. La Thuile is linked to La Rosière in France, offering 82 different runs, mostly in the intermediate range, but with plenty to keep the experts happy. Beginners will love the fact there are plenty of blue runs up high (but options for getting down are limited – many take the gondola). The views from the top are incredible. On some days it’s possible to see not only Mt Blanc to the north but Switzerland’s famous Matterhorn 60km away. Another plus is that most hotels are only a short walk away from the main lifts. Win.
Winter officially kicks off in La Thuile at the end of November but the connection to La Rosière doesn’t open until mid December so that’s really when things open up properly. The season lasts, weather permitting, until mid April. Christmas and New Year are peak periods, February is traditionally when the locals go skiing and March onwards is the time to find late season bargains. Thanks to its situation, altitude and snow-making ability, La Thuile offers a reasonable snow-sure bet throughout.
Things to do in La Thuile
Any kite surfers will love La Thuile. Up on the Petit St Bernard Pass between the resort and La Rosière you can give snow kiting a go and experience the thrill of being pulled by the wind. Other winter sports in the region include cross-country skiing, ski-touring and going for a scenic hike with snowshoes. In resort there’s a spa for relaxing afterwards. And relaxing is the name of the game in La Thuile – the après scene is more chilled than elsewhere – and there are loads of great Italian restaurants.
