The Alpenlodge is such a great find! Deborah, Martin, Ellie and the entire staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. They provided us with detailed recommendations and went over and beyond despite the Christmas holiday. The spa (sauna, steam room, & relaxation area, view from the hotel, affordable same-day laundry service, included breakfast and afternoon tea & cakes were cherries on top of an already wonderful experience. I couldn't recommend this hotel enough.

The location is great, especially if you want to have an incredible view and be proximal to the main train station.
If you're looking to go up to Glacier Paradise and/or ski the Italian side, the walk is about 20-30 minutes with a gentle hill upon return. There are other options - including bus and taxi - in getting to the furi/funi/gondola and heart of Zermatt's town.

We enjoyed a beautiful Junior Suite with a chandelier and the most amazing view of The Matterhorn. An amazing place to enjoy my birthday.
The staff were excellent and easy to communicate with. Breakfast was very nice and the coffee exceptional.
We would definitely return.
I must add, it is a little distance from the station and town and uphill. We enjoyed the walk, but you can get a taxi which you can buy vouchers for 20 CHF. Taxi to and from the station was provided as we stayed 2 nights.

Amazing view and staff

When I arrived I was terribly tired so I didn't make an issue of the room.  After I left and had time to think about it I  was  sad and angry that I was given this room.  You'll note its not featured in any of the 304 pictures.

I cannot recommend Alpenlodge highly enough. This hotel quite literally changed the course of my trip — not just because of the stunning views and cozy rooms, but because of the incredible kindness and compassion shown by the staff, especially Virginia at the front desk.

I arrived in Zermatt during a very difficult moment. I was traveling with someone who, sadly, was treating me unkindly — saying hurtful things and making the experience emotionally draining. I felt overwhelmed and unsure how I’d make the most of the trip. When I explained my situation to Virginia, she responded with warmth, grace, and genuine empathy. She immediately helped me move into a beautiful room with space, privacy, and the most breathtaking view of the Matterhorn. That simple act changed everything.

The room became my peaceful retreat. Every detail was thoughtful, cozy, and calming. The generous discount they extended was also deeply appreciated and not something I take for granted.

Throughout my stay, Virginia was a constant source of support — answering my many questions, giving thoughtful recommendations, and just being incredibly kind. Her help gave me the confidence to enjoy Zermatt despite the circumstances.

Beyond the emotional support, Alpenlodge itself is spectacular. The views are unreal — some of the best in town — and breakfast each morning was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. The wellness area is another gem: the saunas were the perfect way to relax and unwind after a long day.

The entire team made me feel seen, safe, and genuinely cared for — something you don’t find at every hotel. I left feeling stronger, calmer, and incredibly grateful.

If you're looking for a place with heart, warmth, and views that take your breath away, Alpenlodge is it. I will absolutely return — next time under better circumstances, but with the same deep appreciation for this beautiful sanctuary and the people who run it.

The ski-in boutique and bike hotel is located on a sunny hillside of Zermatt, offering panoramic views of the Matterhorn from 10 of the 12 rooms, the modern Zen-Spa, the breakfast room and the lounge. All rooms are furnished in elegant, contemporary alpine style and offer free internet access. The interior has been designed and made by the owners of the lodge. Every day free coffee, tea and cakes are served. The cosy lounge bar with its open fireplace is an inviting place to relax after a day out in the mountains. The main attractions of Zermatt can be reached within a 5 – 10 minutes walk. Transfers to and from the train stations are available free of charge from a stay of 2 nights on.
