A perfect hotel in a perfect location in Chamonix.  The staff were so friendly and helpful. I travelled with a large group of friends for a special birthday and the hotel helped me to organise everything from hotel transfers to ski lessons before I even arrived. I lost count of the numbers of emails I sent before my trip and the hotel could not have been more accommodating, helpful and generous with their knowledge.  

I could not have booked the trip without Emma's expert advice and I'm very grateful - nothing was ever too much trouble and she shared so many top tips of where to eat / apres ski etc. Guillaume and Lorenzo on the front desk were also very helpful and always good natured (despite our many questions)! The team also ensured our rooms were all close to one another, which was a lovely touch. 

The breakfast had everything you could possibly think of, the rooms were clean and comfortable with amazing views of the mountains. Everything was in walking distance, from the bars and restaurants, to the bus stop, the Mer De Glace train and the Aiguille Du Midi Cable Car. We even walked to the Alpine rollercoaster at Les Planards. The spa was a luxury bonus and the fact the hotel provides robes, slippers and toiletries was much appreciated. 

We also used the onsite ski shop to hire our equipment (allow plenty of time to get your boots etc measured).  The boots, skis and helmets were all in good condition and very comfortable. There are lockers on site to store your things.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. I’ve got such special memories to treasure forever of a perfect trip to Chamonix!  Thank you to everyone at the Lykke Hotel. I hope to return one day!

How my stay felt

Our first impression of Lykke was less than perfect unfortunately. We arrived at 3.50pm, and were told our room would be ready at 4. However, it was well after 5pm before we were given a key, and we had to complain/remind them we were waiting several times. They did give us bar drinks to compensate, but I think they wouldn’t have done this had we not pushed. 
BUT…when we got to the room we found it to be clean and spacious, with a great view of the mountains. 
Rooms were cleaned every day, but our sheets were not changed once during a week stay. 
We found the breakfast adequate but very busy, and the staff seemed unable to cope with the influx of visitors. 
The spa area is amazing but don’t expect to be warm! We travelled in Jan with very cold temps, and found the pool/spa to be sub-par for the season. 
Overall, it’s a decent place, but if I returned to Chamonix, I would explore other options for the cost ( av. €500 a night ).

Not quite meeting expectations

At €500 per night, one expects comfort, security, and basic respect. This stay delivered none of the above — but it did offer creativity.

Room & Facilities
	•The “double bed” was two single beds pushed together — a classic illusion.
	•The in-room safe was portable, ideal for anyone wanting to test their shoulder strength.
	•Bed sheets and the same water glass remained untouched for 7 days, presumably to promote sustainability.
	•Soundproofing and water pressure were more conceptual than real.
	•Breakfast was weak, there was no minibar, and drinking water had to be sourced from a hallway fountain.
	•The spa experience includes crossing the street in freezing temperatures, which really completes the wellness journey.

Restaurant Experience (where things get impressive)
	•Food was allowed in the empty bar area all week — until the final night.
	•I was moved from the bar to the restaurant, then rushed to order.
	•When I decided to eat at 9:33 PM, I was informed the kitchen had closed at 9:30 PM.
	•No issue. I bought a Twix and a Coke from reception and returned to eat quietly.
	•Eating that was also not allowed.
	•The restaurant manager, Camille M., then insisted I had already been informed about the kitchen closing and implied I was lying when I said I had not.

Being repeatedly moved around, denied food everywhere, and subtly accused of dishonesty in a nearly empty restaurant over a chocolate bar is quite an experience — especially in a €500/night hotel.

Luxury pricing, poor hospitality. Massively overpriced. Disrespectful. Avoid ‼️

Overpriced, Uncomfortable and Rude
