I booked a room for 5 days, 6 months in advance to attend a family wedding.  Two months after I had booked and had my reservation confirmed, I received an email stating that my reservation had been cancelled. The reason for the cancellation is that they could rent the unit to another person for more money. They did not provide any accommodation for cancelling just an email that basically said too bad, so sad for you but we don't care about our individual customers cause we can just re-rent our unit out to a company for more money. 
THIS IS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVERY EXPERIENCED IN MY ALMOST 60 YEARS!!!!!!
I WILL NEVER RENT FROM THIS HOTEL AGAIN, AND I WILL BE TALKING TO EVERYONE I KNOW ABOU THIS EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!

The Hotel CANCELLED my room reservation for family wedding to rent to company!

The condo unit we stayed in was unit 306 for the 4 adults to take in some mountain biking on the weekend. We rented this unit with a 20% discount. The condo unit was really nice - it's got enough room for two families since it's got a loft, 2 dishwashers in a nice kitchen. Everything about the unit is awesome. There's not doubt about the condo unit being really nice! We had a wonderful time in Fernie and the condo unit.

On check-in, we made sure we read the fine prints on a printed out paper what is stipulated for the condo unit. This condo unit is similar to renting a hotel where you don't have to clean and take out garbage on check-out. On check-out morning, all of us made sure the whole condo unit is in tip-top shape and we even wiped down the walls, swept the floors, and even took out all the garbage! When we left, the condo was in the same condition it was in when we checked in (all except for the beds and bathroom towels, which were put into the laundry basket as detailed on the printed paper).

My friend, who booked the condo unit, had to put down a $200 deposit. So, after checking out, we thought it shouldn't be a problem since there is no damages or anything that could result in management or the owner claiming that $200 on my friend's credit card. Well, surprise! He was sent an email claiming that there are damages to the walls near the front door entrance of the unit. The pictures that were sent were zoomed in but not at all very clear. There were some minor dents to the drywall - one being more noticeable, and some scrapes on a corner near the baseboard. We couldn't figure out where those dings were on the walls. So, we went back to the manager to ask them to provide better pictures and the room number to verify that it is the same condo unit. The pics and video we obtained showed signs of wear and tear and these pics and video are taken from a low end phone or something. After watching the video, I finally realized the scrape on the corner near the baseboard was likely done by either previous renters or by the housemaids with their carts. Same with the small dings on the walls near the door entrance area. Anyway, my friend tried to explain that these are just normal wear and tear and probably not caused by us, especially the lower scrapes on the corner of the wall where it is showing some metal corner guard where the plaster is rubbed off. Also, there is no plaster on the floor in those pictures. Anyway, the manager said that he'll likely take $100 from the $200 deposit as the owner of the condo is doing some renos and will need to get extra supplies to fix those walls. So, basically, we're being charged the extra $100 for:
1) to supply the owner with extra cash to pay for his renos
2) to recoup the 20% discount on the unit.

Anyway, what was a wonderful stay turns into a nightmare of distrust for how they managed this. I wonder if the management did this for all of their guest staying at the same condo unit. We weren't the only ones staying there. Apparently, there were guests that checked out the same day we checked in. Then, a day after we checked out, the unit is rented out to another set of guests. Wonder how much money they're actually making and counting on out of town guests to not contest these fake claims.

Anyway, my friend said that it is a done deal with the Griz Inn management taking the $100 from the damage deposit. This is just a warning for anyone staying at the unit 306 or staying in any of the units at Griz Inn. The second warning is their bike/ski locker area in their basement of the complex. DON'T lock you bike/skis where you're supposed to and especially DON'T leave your bike locked up and unattended on your car rack . The first day we arrived at the Griz Inn, we were immediately warned by another guest staying there. He has a North Shore rack with a couple of bikes on it. There were locked up on it but as they went in to check the room, someone tried to take the bikes off the rack. They knew someone had tried to lift the bikes out as there are safety latches on the rear wheel that were displaced. We were thinking of putting the bikes in the designated areas in the basement but we noticed that the back doors are always unlocked and open most of the day everyday. So, even if you had locked up every bike in the basement, it doesn't take much time for a thief to actually cut the locks and walk away with the bike of their choice. They've got cameras  but if your bike is stolen, a lot of good it does to recover your bike for the weekend!

I think our only mistake we made with this dispute was that we thought everything was checked out before and after we left. I usually take a photo and video walk-through just before leaving any hotel rooms or condo units to ensure that any dispute can be challenged. However, I forgot to do it this time around and the management was able to take advantage of the scam. I don't think any out of towners would want to go through the trouble and the hassle of disputing this scam in court since it'll take more than $200 to hire a lawyer and go to court over $200 or less in damage fees claimed by Griz Inn. I'll be posting this on all review sites and I hope people are aware of this scam.

We booked our room online last minute as we didn't really know where we wanted to go so we booked here.  We booked a standard room which was ok as we didn't want to spend a ton on short notice and we knew a lot of places were going to be super expensive because of the long weekend.  We arrived on the Saturday here, the front end lady was extremely helpful, when we arrived to our room we were a bit shocked that we were in the basement which I thought was a bit odd but ok it is an older inn.  When we arrived to our room we noticed how small the room was, I felt we were a bit deceived about how big the room was, I've been to lots of other places and even for how cheap we paid we had bigger rooms before, I guess it wasn't that big of a deal but would have liked to have the opportunity when we arrived to have the option to get into a bigger room, but that was not the case clearly which I thought was strange but whatever, regardless of that I noticed when we finally got settled when I went to the bathroom, it was not very clean, the bathtub had hair in it, there was hair all along the lining of the bathtub and on the floor.  It was pretty disgusting so I was not happy about that, but whatever the only good part of being in that room is that we were steps away from the hot tub that's about it.
We were a bit shocked to hear that staff leaves after 5pm so no one is here and the building gets locked up which you can only access from the front entrance, thought it was a bit strange.  Next day we asked about ski lift passes and where we can get them front end lady same lady from the day before gave them to us for free because we were staying at the inn, 5 stars to her! 
Our overall stay was ok, but nothing to get excited about, I wasn't too impressed I had to wait till 9am to check out, we were trying to get on the road to go back home and I came into the front about 840am had to used the phone to see if someone can come earlier to check us out, the lady on the phone said the guy was just coming down the hill so should be there shortly and will let him know I was waiting.  
I waited for more than 5 minutes so clearly he was not just coming down the hill, it seemed like he made me wait till exactly 9am just so I can check out, pretty frustrating I had to wait 20 minutes when I was told it would be shorter time. Check out went ok and then we left.
Overall experience I'm give a 3 out of 5 stars.
The first front end lady she receives 5 stars! She was very helpful and pleasant to deal with.
Size of room and cleanliness 3 stars
Close to hot tub 5 stars!
Trying to check out was a pain so I'm only giving 2 stars.
Overall stay experience was ok, but could have been better.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay again in room 208. This is a pet friendly room that allows our entire family to enjoy the hill. The kids had a great time playing in the pool and hanging out at our favourite table by the fireplace in the Rusty Edge. This is one annual event that we consistently look forward to.
