Compared to other hotels in the area the Chalet Royal is reasonably priced, especially considering it’s perfect location for skiing (gondola is less than a 5 minute walk up the road), and has stunning views across the Rhone Valley and Sion to the mountains opposite. Room was OK but nothing to shout about, bathroom was a bit tired but clean and with VERY hot water! Breakfast was OK but I expected there to have been more gluten free options (probably my own fault for not letting them know). The hotel was super quiet - felt like I was the only guest the first night, which I guess was perhaps the reason breakfast was at the partner hotel La Magrappe the next morning. Room rate included access to a ski locker which has an amazing location right at the end of the piste, but is unheated. Spa area is good, and although you have to pay extra it’s only 15 CHF for an hour and then you get it to yourself for an hour for up to 6 people. Staff were super friendly and helpful.

Perfect location and amazing breakfast (pastries, bacon, eggs). Spa and gym were great. However, the 'double bed' was two single mattresses pushed together—a serious comfort issue as they constantly split apart at night.
