Like many Youth Hostels in Switzerland the one in Scuol has received a price for its architecture. Justly! It is a nice place to stay.

In summer guests are into outdoor sports. That means that they might have to take an early morning bus at 0630 hrs. 

In the evening we asked for some food to eat early morning, when the kitchen is still closed. No problem, we could have a lunch pac. Surprise, surprise! For a sandwich made of 2 regular slices of bread with cheese or ham, an apple, a cereal stick we were asked to pay Fr 10.00 plus coffee from the machine. At the breakfast buffet we could have had as much bread, cheese, ham, yogurt, fruit, jam butter, coffee as we wish - just like in any Swiss Youth Hostel.

One has to make a request for "take-away breakfast" at least one week early to get that for free!

We were surprised about that unfair price policy and lack of flexibility.

I stayed at youth hostel with my family in March 2019 for a week. We had a family room with nice views. Staff at reception and kitchen are very friendly and kind. Youth hostel is very close to railway station of Scuol-Tarasp. Ski-lift station is also in the vicinity. They also offer 10% discount on Bogn Engiadina wellness spa in Scuol.

Perfect rooms for a youth hostel located in a modern building with a unique architecture. I spent a night in a twin-bedded room on the top floor of this interesting building. The youth hostel offers good comfort with the standard of a modern hotel at moderate price. There are also cheaper rooms with shared infrastructure. The breakfast bar has all that is needed in excellent quality but without lavish excess. The restaurant is furnished with long tables that encourage people to sit together and talk to each other. Wonderful view to the mountains from all rooms and just a few steps from the train station. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Modern youth hostel with a unique architecture

A brutalist concrete tower (quite an awesome architecture) with stunning views of the mountains, with comfy bunk beds and clean and modern bathroom facilities. The rooms are clean, and each bed has it's own light and plug socket, which is handy. The sink in the room is also good. The location is very good, and close to the train station. 

However, we found the lady on reception not very welcoming both on arrival and when we left (as a regular youth hostel visitor across the world, one of the most uninviting staff members I have ever encountered). The breakfast was a bit basic and of average quality, and overall, we felt that the youth hostel is a tad overpriced, especially if you have to pay the "non-membership fee" (that's CHF 6/person - far too high and not properly clarified on their German-only website) and for parking (again, not specified on their website).  Overall, for the amount we spent, we could have stayed in a B&B or hotel in the nearby area (we checked after our stay). 

Having said that, it seemed to be very popular with families with children, for which the youth hostel caters to very well.

Average and a tad overpriced youth hostel

The modern Scuol Youth Hostel is situated near the train station, next to the mountain cableways and just ten minutes from "Bogn Engiadina": a perfect base for sports-oriented guests, families, young people and groups. Modern architectural design is in perfect harmony with traditional Engadine buildings. The youth hostel offers 164 beds in rooms with 6, 4 and 2 beds. Many of the rooms have their own shower and WC. In the cosy dining room, guests sit together at the long dining table and enjoy the delicious 3-course menu. The cuisine focuses on regional produce from local farmers. Grisons dishes as well as tried-and-tested classics feature on the menu. The elegant lobby with bar, lounge and open fire is a meeting point for guests. They also have the use of a games room and a sitting room with a superb view of the Grisons mountain landscape.
