Great location near lifts, short walk to the restaurants and center. Quick ride to the train. Staff is friendly, facilities and breakfast are nice. 

This single room is by the elevator and stairs and is a little loud. You can hear the person next door in the bathroom through the wall. 

My biggest complaint is that the shower is terrible: the stall is tiny, and the handheld shower head has so much pressure it can’t rest in the cradle, no matter what you try. You’re forced to hold while trying to manage the squeeze bottle of soap/shampoo. 

Otherwise the spa is nice but small for the number of people. The hot tub is just warm, but massive.

We have been visiting Zermatt for many, many years – but this was our first stay at the Christiania. We couldn’t have been happier. We booked directly with the hotel and were encouraged by the pre-arrival communication. Since we weren’t going to be skiing this year, a great Matterhorn view was very important to us – and Kiri went out of her way to make that happen. The peaceful location is perfect, the modern rooms are comfortable, and the food is good: a brilliant breakfast and, for guests who book half-board, a generous and varied dinner (the latter served in the same attractive restaurant as a-la-carte/non-hotel diners, which made evenings a very pleasant and relaxed experience). Better yet, there’s the atmosphere: this is a family-run hotel – and it shows. It feels Alpine and informal, but it works very well. Fellow-guests all seemed happy. And the (many) staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient – from reception to housekeeping and from the restaurant to the shuttle-service. In short, I can’t imagine why we’d stay anywhere else in future.

Why would we stay anywhere else?

The Christiania Hotels & Spa is located next to Zermatt's underground funicular to the Sunnegga Ski Area, from where you can reach all the ski resorts in the area. Many rooms offer panoramic views of the Matterhorn, and free WiFi is available in the entire property. The spa area at the Christiania includes a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna, a steam bath, an ice cave, and a 25-metre-long pool. It also offers panoramic views of the Matterhorn. In summer, there is a tennis court and miniature golf available free of charge. A rich breakfast buffet is served every morning. In the evening, guests can enjoy a 4-course dinner. Upon arrival and departure, between 08:00 and 20:00, guests can take advantage of the free shuttle service to and from the train station of Zermatt.
