Welcome to Gressoney Ski Resort

Based at the centre of the Monterosa ‘three valleys’, Gressoney is actually two villages – Gressoney-La-Trinité and Gressoney-Saint-Jean, and is situated in the high mountains of Italy that border Switzerland. Champoluc and Alagna are also part of the Monterosa ski circuit, which is home to 180km of pistes that range in height from 1,200m to 3,200m. That offers some incredible descents and off-piste potential. With its predominance of red runs and range of terrain however, the region is better suited to more experienced skiers but there are a couple of nursery slopes in the valley.

Best time to ski in Gressoney

With skiing up to 3,000m, the Monterosa region is one of the surest bets for snow in the Alps and at 1,600m Gressoney also has the height to ensure a good coverage throughout the season. That season officially runs from early December through to mid April. December is when it’s at its most festive – and chilly – but there are always local events and traditions throughout the winter, such as carnival at the end of February. For the best snow, think about January and February and if you like a bit of warmth from that sun, book March or April.

Things to do in Gressoney

Gressoney is much more than just a ski resort. It’s a quiet and rural Italian village characteristic of old Alpine traditions and style, giving visitors plenty of history to explore when they’re not skiing. Other sports include winter hiking and mountaineering. Ski touring is also popular and you can hire a guide in the village. There’s also several cross-country tracks in the area. Off the slopes there’s a sports centre, several shops, and some great restaurants. But ultimately, both villages are best suited to visitors looking for a relatively peaceful, quiet ambience after the lifts have closed.
