Getting to and around town:
Your airport transfer is included with your trip. Once there, you’ll find Maria Alm a classic Austrian village with a distinctive church spire and great local restaurants. Trails start from the edge of the village, and the Hochmaisbahn and Natrunbahn lifts are within easy reach.
Getting to your walks and hikes:
The Hochkönig Card - available free from selected accommodations - covers free travel across all six summer cable cars in the region, including the Hochmaisbahn and Natrunbahn in Maria Alm. The Hochkönig Hiking Bus connects the three villages and key trailheads throughout the season.

Can I still access Maria Alm's lift and gondolas in the summer?
Yes, you can. Maria Alm's lifts and gondolas still operate throughout the summer months, provided conditions are safe and favourable, and many of the mountain huts are still operational, so you can grab a bite to eat while savouring those epic mountain views.
When do Maria Alm's lifts and gondolas run during summer?
Hochmaisbahn (Gabühel)
- Operating times: 09:00 – 17:00 (09:00–18:00 peak season)

- Closes: September 27th 2026
(Closed June 8th-19th)
Reitherkogelbahn
- Operating times: 09:00 – 17:00

- Closes: November 8th 2026
(Closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays outside peak season)
A quick "Mountain Rule of Thumb": Last ascent is usually 15–30 minutes before the official closing time, and Last descent is the very last cabin down. If you miss it, it’s a long walk back!
Can I hire a mountain guide on my Maria Alm walking holiday?
Yes, you can. Though these are not currently bookable via the Heidi website, you can enquire and book with the local tourist office, or visit their website. We recommend enquiring early to ensure availability.
What does the Maria Alm summer card give me?
Maria Alm's Hochkönig Card & Salzburg Mobility Ticket — free with selected accommodations — gives you unlimited rides on all summer cable cars, free bus and train travel across the whole valley, and free entry to selected sports facilities, tennis courts, and outdoor pools, and weekly guided cycling and hiking tours.
