Gausta Sportell

My son (15) had skied before, but this was my first time on skis at the age of 48, so I was a little nervous about the whole thing. The Sportell Hotel at Gausta made the whole experience absolutely brilliant.
Location is great for beginners. You step straight out onto a green run, and while you do need to ski to some of the lifts rather than accessing them directly from the hotel, the position means the whole resort is very reachable. Ideal if you’re finding your feet like I was.

The staff genuinely go the extra mile. I’d booked early morning ski school — starting before the lifts opened and before the shuttle bus ran. Rather than leaving us to sort out expensive taxis every day, the hotel manager personally arranged for the shuttle company to do a special early run just for us. That kind of initiative is rare and really made a difference.

Practical bits: The kit hire store directly across the road is convenient and well run — no complaints at all.

Food was outstanding. The breakfast buffet was high quality and the evening meals were genuinely excellent. Highlights for me were the duck and the venison. I’m not normally a fish person at all, but even that was good! Worth noting there’s no à la carte menu — it’s a set menu each evening — so go in knowing that.

All in all a fantastic first week on the slopes. I’ll definitely be back next year.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

First-time skier at 48 — and I’d go back in a heartbeat

We had a great apartment with two large picture windows overlooking the ski slope and Gaustatoppen.
The ‘plat du jour’ meal each evening was excellent quality ( note no choice unless you have dietary requirements notified in advance).  We are foodies and can honestly say the duck and beef main courses were one of the best cooked we have ever had.
All the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Use of the free Gausta shuttle bus was essential to get to the other areas of the resort as the hotel is some distance from the main hub.
A blue red and green ski slope are all accessible directly from the ski locker across the road from the hotel so definitely ski in ski out.

Three first thing we noticed about our room was the large bed, in the morning we could choose from a broad selection of breakfast options, we particularly enjoyed the view on the ski piste outside, it was a pity that we didn’t have the chance to ski

Modern and nice hotel with super friendly staff
All worked well for our family despite the hard weather. 
Good place if you have an electric car that would need to be charged during the ice cold weather :-)

Perfect location for ski out-in. This is a Sportell - ski - eat - sleep - no nightclub, perfect to load your batteries and just relax. Excellent service and location. Adult people, if you go for party - this is not the right place.
