Grand Hotel Zell am See

Zell am See

This was our third visit to the Grand Hotel - and we are already talking about making a fourth. This year we brought friends who we thought would love the hotel as much as we do, and they did! The location is fantastic and the view of the lake from our very spacious bedroom was just wonderful. The breakfast buffet each morning set us up well for that day’s skiing, but we never had time to indulge in the afternoon tea. Evening meals were very good, and I particularly appreciated the variety of fish dishes served during our 4-night stay. I find the decor charming - it’s traditional Mitteleuropa - and the hotel was setting up for Easter as we were leaving, with bunny decorations dotted around. Children would find that delightful.

A charming hotel with the best views

Like so many Grand Hotels it is living of its past and its location right on the lake. I suspect in summer it has a different vibe if you can swim right from the hotel. In winter the draw is less obvious and possibly more for people enjoying a spa with lots of gold and ornaments rather rather than clean lines. 
Clientel is largely English and Eastern European; we are told in summer it is heavily frequented by Arabs. 
Biggest disappointment - the inability or unwillingness to help with the wine menu. Many of the staff do drink alcohol. But somebody should be able to provide guidance around the many Austrian wines on the list. A wine waiter (no sommelier to be had it appeared) should not, in an irritating tone, suggest one stick to the same wine the entire week if one liked it or that nobody likes a certain grape variety (why is it on the menu then).

Glory of the past...and the lake

Wonderful hotel for a family ski trip. Our 4th time here! Good food, excellent staff, comfortable beds, shuttle to ski lifts all make for a lovely stay. However some small details in need of attention. Dirty glasses and cups not replaced in room daily clean, toilet roll and shower gel not replenished and had to be requested. Pool area is great but in need of minor repairs eg hydro jets only partially working in pool, half of LED ceiling lights out of action.

Great hotel for a family ski trip.

Outstanding.hotel. After reading some mixed reviews I was a bit hesitant to book this hotel. 
I am so glad we did , the staff, food quality, views , shuttle to slopes I have to say are outstanding. The reviews that have been left are not representative of any of the experience my family and I have had so far.
