We had a nice week stay here in the Talbachschenke.  We rented a self catering chalet (Edelweiss).  The chalet was heated by a traditional wood stove, which kept the chalet nice and toasty warm and enabled us to dry our daily ski gear.  Plenty of wood outside for us to feed the stove.  There was 1 1/2 baths, and 4 bedrooms which could sleep up to 9 (two singles,  one triple with bunk beds and a double, and one quadruple with a triple bed and a single bed).  The kitchen had a stove, microwave, good sized fridge, coffeemaker and plenty of utensils and dishes- and the dining area had seating for 10 on benches and tables.   Very comfortable and spacious for our group of 4.   Daily bread service allowed for delivery of fresh semmel, pretzels, and other Austrian breads, as well as options to get cold cuts or eggs if need be.  However there are plenty of grocery stores in town so there is no need if you plan in advance.  The hotel has a house restaurant which is pretty good, and is located about a 10 min walk from the Planai lift or a 10 min drive from the Hochwurzen gondola. Also only a few minutes walk to many of the restaurants in town.  On the weekends in December there is a Christmas market which runs, offering mulled wine, hot drinks and also Christmas booths with gifts of all kinds.   Service is friendly and helpful.  Parking available right outside the chalet.   A very good stay option for a traditional Alpine experience in a good location.

We stayed at the Talbachschenke Dor in Der Stadt in late July and early August 2016.  We stayed in an apartment with our extended family (daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren).  What an amazing place to stay!  Extremely peaceful, quiet and very relaxing but, at the same time, a very short walk to the town centre.  The apartment was exceptionally well prepared and extremely clean and tidy.  We cannot recommend this place highly enough.  Schladming is a wonderful place and the Talbachschenke is the perfect place to stay so as to explore the surrounding area.  We will definitely book again, and again!  We can't wait to return.

We stayed in the Auer apartment for a week - which is above the restaurant and sleeps 2 - 3 people. 

The apartment consists of kitchen/diner, bedroom and bathroom and is accessed at the back through a hallway which it shares with the apartment next door. During our stay, we didn't experience any prolonged or night-time disturbance from the restaurant below or the neighbouring apartment. The location of the holiday village, near to the river and Schladming brewery and beside a field of domestic deer, is lovely. There is nearby access to the town centre, ski facilities and walking routes via a bridge - a walk up the nearby Talbach river footpath is recommended. There are also great views out over the town churches (with ringing bells) and mountains. Lots of friendly dogs and cats also to be found.

The restaurant downstairs offered up delicious rustic Austrian food at a good value price and efficient, cheerful service. 

The apartment was fairly well equipped with cooking equipment and crockery for self catering although our cork screw was broken and previous guests had cracked the non dish-washer safe wine glasses. Adequate towels and bedding included and the beds were reasonably comfortable. As a British visitor, I would have appreciated a welcome beverage tray (tea/coffee/milk) which weren't included. The rooms were clean on arrival. Although wi-fi was provided, it was sometimes unreliable. 

One thing that let the apartment down was there was sometimes an unpleasant smell emitting from the drains, presumably as the building and plumbing are old - although this could be recitifed by turning on the extractor fan. Also, there was an old fashioned "shelf" style toilet which may not be appreciated by international visitors. 

Overall, a pleasant and central place to stay in Schladming, offering fair value for money.

Holiday chalet and apartment complex Talbachschenke is quite charming, rustic, full of character, close to centre, offering views of the mountains, in close proximity to two churches that wake you up at odd hours with jolly bell ringing, very close to the heart of lovely rural Schladming. Every day we were watching out of the window a group of resident deer with magnifiscent stag. 

The holiday village consists of several buildings – some old, some brand new chalets. I am sure the new properties are spectacular inside and out, however, apartment  Auer we stayed at is located above the pub/restaurant  and despite pretty photos on website is old, of questionable cleanliness and is not up to standard to justify price of over 600 Euros per week: tiny old bathroom fitted at least 30 years ago with smelly toilet and awful drains smell, kitchen corner is tiny with no worktop for food preparation, only German speaking channels on sat TV, electrical socket in splashback zone of cooker no EU Health and Safety would ever pass, messy wiring with extension socket, noise from apartment next door and from late night pub revellers. On plus side: comfortable beds with decent bedding, coffee maker/kettle/toaster/microwave/good fridge/small dishwasher.

Despite location being charming, it is not prime location for ski holidays, not convenient for ski lifts – unavoidably have to walk considerable distance to lifts or even to nearest skibus stop, which is a pain in ski boots.

At the foot of the Planai, a few steps from the center of Schladming, lies a place full of cosiness and hospitality – the village in the city. Four spacious wooden chalets, a rustic alpine cottage and five comfortable apartments offer our guests an idyllic home in the middle of the Schladming mountains. Our holiday village runs along the Talbach, nestled in a beautiful garden with terraces and barbecue areas, a well-maintained natural swimming pond and the traditional restaurant Talbachschenke. The rustic-alpine style of our holiday homes, modern living comfort (with sauna, kitchen and fireplace) and the quiet but central location on the Talbach, make the village in the city a cozy starting point for unforgettable holiday experiences – in winter, as in summer!
