Located at the heart of the Hofgastein Valley ski area and with lifts linking to neighbouring Bad Gastein, the beautiful medieval spa town of Bad Hofgastein is a favourite amongst intermediate skiers. And don’t let its name put you off. This resort is far from bad!
Streams of wide blues and tree-lined reds meander through epic mountain scenery. Freeride fanatics will love the backcountry scene, too - steep verticals, narrow chutes, and deep powder bowls await. Let’s shred! New to the sport? No problem! Head to the nursery slopes at Angertal to get your first downhill thrills.

Best time to ski in Bad Hofgastein
Bad Hofgastein is on the edge of the snowsure Ski Amadé region, and with plenty of snow cannon coverage, the slopes are kept topped up and pristine from early December to mid-April. Cold temperatures mean the snow is, by and large, best in January and February - ideal for a half-term break.
Want to escape the crowds? Try to avoid peak holiday weeks. You’ll enjoy quieter slopes and mountain restaurants. So much more relaxing! Look out for dates of the Die Nord race in April - it’s one of the longest downhill runs in the Eastern Alps. Or book a trip in December to catch the Bad Hofgastein Advent Christmas Concerts - sip warm Glühwein and enjoy festive tunes in a magical winter wonderland.
