Welcome to Neustift Im Stubaital Ski Resort

Neustift im Stubaital owes its popularity to the Stubai Glacier, known as ‘the Kingdom of Snow’, which offers seven months of skiing a year. There are a few slopes directly above the village but most people tend to hop on the ski bus and take the lift up to the glacier. Its network of 34 slopes is large for a glacier ski resort and there’s plenty of cruisy groomers to keep intermediate skiers and boarders happy. Plus it's home to Austria’s highest mountain restaurant, the Jochdohle, where you can discover the nation’s favourite dish, wiener schnitzel, along with a stein of beer.

Best time to ski in Neustift Im Stubaital

Thanks to the Stubai glacier, Neustift enjoys 230 ski days a year, from mid-October to the end of May and is considered a reliable go-to place for early and late season skiing. When it comes to Christmas and New Year, Austria really goes to town with the cultural festivities, whether that’s with glühwein and Christmas markets or fireworks and torch-lit skiing over New Year. In the Austrian Tyrol, they take it very seriously, everyone dresses up, and it’s a wonderful time to go. Things quieten after January 6th until the February holidays – making that a good off-peak window when snow conditions are usually great too. But with glacier skiing until the end of May, you’re really spoilt for choice.

Things to do in Neustift Im Stubaital

When they’re not on skis, Austrians love to tear down the mountain on their ‘rodelbahns’, or toboggans. There are 80 tobogganing runs in the Tyrol. Neustift alone has four courses, ranging from 3.6km to 6.4km some of which are open at night. Suitable for old and young alike, tradition dictates a shot of schnapps before hurtling down on a traditional wooden sledge. Other snow-based activities include cross-country skiing, visiting an ice grotto in the glacier and ice skating. In town there’s swimming and bowling (at the leisure centre) and dozens of great restaurants and bars.
