Welcome to Ellmau Ski Resort

There are certain characteristics a resort should have for first timers and the not so experienced – good nursery slopes, a generous offering of easy blue runs and a lack of crowds. Ellmau has them all, plus something else – access to one of the world’s largest linked ski areas.
The Ski Welt network of slopes around Söll, Hopfgarten and Brixem im Thale offer 248km of intermediate friendly pistes. There’s something else Ellmau has too – great panoramic views across to the Wilder Kaiser mountains, and several huts where you can relax and soak up the epic atmosphere.

Best time to ski in Ellmau

The season runs mid December through to mid April. Ellmau is not the highest resort, so the best chance of good snow cover is normally going to be January and February. However there are always exceptions and quite often December is a winter wonderland (especially with the Christmas markets) and March a great time for skiing in the sun.
The resort has invested heavily in artificial snow-making facilities in recent years to ensure there’s decent piste coverage throughout the season. Price wise, Ellmau is one of the more affordable resorts, but expect to pay more during the festive period up to January 6th and again during February high season.

Things to do in Ellmau

On the snow there’s winter hiking, dog-sledding, tobogganing and cross-country skiing. Nearby Söll offers paragliding too and there’s an Igloo village on Hochbrixen. Down in the valley you can take a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride, try curling, go swimming, or just relax afterwards in the sauna and spa.
There are several restaurants offering traditional and hearty Austrian cuisine – everything from roast pork and dumplings to Wiener Schnitzels, Apple Strudels, and giant portions of Kaiserchmarrn pancake.
