Best time to ski in Alpe d'Huez

With its high altitude and range of snow-making equipment, Alpe d’Huez is considered a safe bet for snow cover the whole season, which runs December to April. In December, there are always festive activities and events to enjoy. January is the quietest month (and often a great time to pick up a bargain). Families tend to go in February which leaves March and April for those who prefer the longer days of spring time skiing – and who don’t mind too much if the snow gets a bit slushy late in the day.

Things to do in Alpe d'Huez

There’s no shortage of other things to do in Alpe d’Huez from cross-country skiing to snow biking; from ice skating to paragliding. In summer it becomes a pilgrimage for cyclists tackling its famous col. In town there’s a climbing wall, swimming pool (guys - speedos only) and cinema. Kids will enjoy the visit to the sculptures of the resort’s ice cave at 2,700m. Across the resort there are around 60 eateries of all descriptions, offering everything from pizza to cheesy French classics. And if your idea of après is dancing on the tables, there is a Folie Douce – as well as several other bars and clubs.
