Welcome to Argentiere Ski Resort

Argentière, France is the quieter neighbour to Chamonix, situated at the foot of the mighty mountains of Mont Blanc and just 60 miles from Geneva. You get access to the same slopes, the same big mountain terrain but it’s much smaller, and more of a traditional village resort, rather than a big town metropolis. There’s a wide spread of skiable terrain in the Chamonix valley, split between the areas of Les Houches, Brévent-Flegère and Grands Montets, linked by ski bus. Argentière sits at the bottom of the Grands Montets area, which gives access to great intermediate to advanced skiing from 1,200m to 2,700m. Beginners may find Argentiere a bit too gnarly, but 5 minutes away by bus, you’ll find much better beginner skiing at La Tour.

Best time to ski in Argentiere

Argentière’s ski season is one of the longest thanks to its altitude and north-facing aspect, lasting from early December through to the beginning of May. December and January are the most reliable months for snowfall, coinciding with the holiday season. This is also the coldest time, so wrapping up warm is a must up-high. This is also the busiest period, along with February. March and April bring longer and warmer days, along with less crowded slopes and also the chance to pick up a late season bargain.

Things to do in Argentiere

There is no shortage of alternate activities. Head into Chamonix (15 minutes on the train) for some shopping – you’ll find everything from luxury brands to designer ski wear to outdoor gear. In town there’s also a great little Alpine museum, a cinema and numerous bars, cafes and restaurants. Up on the mountain, Argentière is famous for its icefalls which can be climbed in January and February with a guide. There’s also cross-country skiing, ice-skating, winter mountaineering, paragliding and dog-sledding. Taking the cable car to the top of the Aiguille du Midi, 3,842m is also worth it for the spectacular views and excellent mountain restaurant
