Welcome to Val d'Isere Ski Resort

Famed as much for its quality slopes and reliable snow as for its legendary party scene, Val d’Isère is not surprisingly one of our most popular resorts. It’s home to an incredible 300km of pistes, with most slopes above 2,300m. Although it’s well known for its challenging runs and off-piste – this is definitely a ski hard, party hard kind of place – don’t let that put you off. If you're not the most confident there’s a wide range of greens and blues scattered about the resort for stress-free descents and a really efficient lift system for getting you up, and if necessary, back down again. Boarders will love the playground, which has 40 kickers and six lines from beginner to expert.

Best time to ski in Val d'Isere

Val d’Isère has one of the longest ski seasons in the Alps, lasting from the end of November to the beginning of May. That’s because it has some of the highest skiing, with slopes going up to 3,400m. On top of that, it has one of the most advanced snowmaking facilities in Europe. It really is one of the best snow-sure resorts in the Alps and this is ultimately the reason for its popularity. Mid-January is popular with Brits looking for a bargain. February high season it’s popular with the French. March and April can be superb, as longer days mean spring skiing and après on the slopes.

Things to do in Val d'Isere

Ski-touring has really taken off in recent years – this is where you hike up the mountain on skis before skiing down normally. Val d’Isère is one of the few resorts to have embraced tourers and there are now marked safe areas to try the sport. Other activities include ice driving, ice climbing and even ice diving in a frozen lake. In resort there’s a cinema and giant sports complex with pools, sauna, gym and climbing wall. And of course, Val d’Isère is famous for its nightlife. This is where the craze for dancing on tables was kicked off by La Folie Douce – it’s still rocking 40 years on.
