A taste of classic Haute-Savoie mountain life
Tucked into the foothills of the Aravis range, La Clusaz has been welcoming mountain enthusiasts for over 100 years. Certainly, a contender for ‘pretty village in the French Alps’, it’s a pleasure to stroll around the delightful little streets and dip in and out of boutique stores and street cafés with the tree-covered hills as backdrop. Fresh air, Savoyard architecture and magnificent dining scene contribute to a classic alpine ambience. It’s a popular choice for families and couples but the sheer beauty of this mountainside location means it appeals to anyone with a passion for the great outdoors.
6 reasons we think you’ll love summer in La Clusaz
Biking trails
Le Domaine is a dedicated mountain biking area with 125km of trails that weave through alpine forests and wide-open landscapes. There are plenty of easy routes and a beautiful trail that is designed specifically with families in mind.
Outdoors dip
Even swimming in La Clusaz is accompanied by a breath-taking view. The heated outdoor pool at Aravis Aqua Centre treats you to a sweeping alpine vista and the indoor pool makes use of floor-to-ceiling windows so you don’t miss out.
Climb some rocks
The Aravis range is a playground for rock climbers. Truly scenic locations and a wealth of beginner routes make this a popular family activity too. Local instructors will provide all equipment and find the best routes for your ability.
Tasty alpine cheese
The region is a proud producer of world-renowned Reblochon cheese. Made with milk from cows that graze on the alpine pastures, this smooth, buttery cheese is the primary ingredient in the classic Savoyard dish tartiflette, which features on most local menus.
Traditional sights
La Clusaz is a traditional Haute-Savoie town as opposed to a purpose-built resort so it radiates with authentic alpine personality. This is especially evident in the church square, home to an old church building over 200 years old.
Fantastic for families
For starters, there’s a minigolf course right in the centre of town. But that’s not all. Kids go crazy for the two 800 metre summer luge runs, high-wire adventure course, trampoline park, and the ever-popular big air-bag jump.
